It's not easy, but i found my bf in Friendster last year. He messaged me and added me in MSN and 2 weeks later we met each other.
I can never believe that there are still good guys in net. yet my bf is a good guy :) We have been together for 1yr+.

There are many sites that deal with the aspect of life. You must be cautious of which ones you choose. You should be able to preview your area and get an idea of how many prospects are available in your immediate area. Some do not allow this. Avoid them. They make you pay a monthly fee and then you find out there is not enough prospects in your area to give a good selection. Too late, they allready have your money. Also watch for automatic renewal. Great if you want it, but not good idea for most. It is usually the default setup for the sites. Try Yahoo. They have a good setup. You can preview for free. You need to pay to contact someone.
