If the amount of the minimum wage is the impetus for whether or not someone works, we're all in trouble!

No - the fact that I need money to have greater control and independence motivates me to get a job at a decent wage. I do not consider minimum wage as a decent wage, but it is better than earning no wage and/or being depend on another for financial needs.

Congress voted down the minimum wage raise, so it will be at least another year before the min. wage goes up. The bill called for a raise to $7.25/hr. So no, it doesn't encourage me to get a job.

With the cost of living rising the way it has? The average 1 bedroom apartment in my county is now $1040/mo (does not include utilities) - compared to 10 years ago this is $500 more / month!

A home my mom owned 10 years ago was $88,000 - It's now worth $250,000 (I would never pay over $100k for it!) But it just goes to show you just how incredibly hard you'll need to work for very little, anything less and I'd consider sleeping in your car at rest areas....then you need to consider gas prices!!!

A job...NO!

A career? YES!

(Stay in school kids...for as long as you can, because once you get out...if you don't have a great career on the horizon, you're screwed.)

Minimum wage is an employers way of saying "If I could pay you less, I would". No one should settle for minimum wage for longer than a year.

Would it be too impolite for me to say this?

Go earn qualifications for a better paying job!

If nothing else, minimum wage ought to send a clear message about the best it's gonna be unless one put out more ambition.

Minimum wage ought to be a way of saying, "Don't do this to yourself!"

Minimum wage goes up. Meanwhile, gas is up, food and services cost more. So what more will I be getting?

no, only because I stay at home with my kids right now and don't need to work, but how much is it going up? I hadn't heard that.
