Because those sports are really big in those certain countries. You aren't going to see a powerhouse U.S. soccer team or a champion hockey team from India or an undefeated rugby team from Poland.

Many sports only ever developed in certain countries - for example, cricket is only played to any major extent in about 8 or ten countries, rugby Union in about the same. I think your point falls down in re football..... the top 10 football nations as ranked by Fifa recently included the USA and the Czech Republic, and also re athletics, where the African countries totally dominate the running events. Obviously weather and geographic conditions also play a part - a downhill skiing champion is unlikely to come from Lesotho (no snow) or Holland (no hills).

Its bcause usa think it is great as they want to win ,russia wants to prove that they can beat usa likewise China. No one really plays rugby only commonwealth based and Scotland has to few people and noy enough sponsorship. England is just toooo laid back and whatever

I think your question should read, why is it so long since the scottish provided a good sportsperson.

But take comfort, you have a good cycling team

BTW Praktik - India are one of the best Hockey teams (unless you mean Ice Hockey - in which case say so)

because countries develop a school in that sport and that needs funding. if the sport doesn't get any results it's very hard to get sponsors and funding, so you can't train properly, so only with a lot of talent and luck you can measure up against people who have all the equipment.

Football? cause we are perhaps good at bulling.
athletic = we have the most stamina and competitive attitude.
gymnastic = we are good at high tech
rugby = we still have lot place to explore
badminton = we are keen can replicate development fast

cricket = we are strategist
