when trying to use my microphone it tell me that it is in use by another appli. how do i find out what appli.. is using it?

Cntrl + Alt + Del, Then in process tab try and find the application which will be named after the brand of the microphone you have installed.

Do you have any software running in the background.. maybe with a webcam? Check it out. You could always go into device manager and disabling the microphone and re-enabling it.

That happens to me all the time except with my speakers. I've never thought of trying this before now, but try Control Alt Delete.
