You know, a couple months ago I might have said, "Absolutely!" I certainly am trying. In Yahoo Answers I am meeting people whose *TRUTHS* both startle and appall me, I admit. Even their questions sometimes knock me off balance.
You see, the people with whom I work are all sane. We all go through intense psychological screening - psych testing, random urine sampling, behavioural observation. We all have to work closely with each other and so we learn to find commonalities, be polite, speak our truths with lowercase Ts.
The people with whom I associate mostly for pleasure are sworn to tolerance. They are not admitted to our Order unless they are. They would be talked to if they started passing off their truths as *TRUTHS*.
So when I read people here gleefully advocating killing, when I read about people saying Masons and Shriners are Satanic, when I read that some folks actually long for others to roast in a lake of fire... I am just ill-prepared for that, you know?
I try my best to find what truth is inside their TRUTH and speak to that. Lots of times now I just close the question and move on. Sure are a lot of wounded people posting here.
Peace

Unless their truth coincides with our own world view, we usually dismiss their truths' as less valid than our own. We can more easily see this within our own abilities (or lack there of) to hear in our own voices as our truth is revealed. Truth is not personal or subjective but instead seems to have an eternal quality that allows it to exist outside of either culture, or historical context.

Truth is a truth is a truth. We must respect it even if it comes from a parrot or a child (sukadapi baladapi) as the scriptures put it. If we fail to do it, that is our misfortune.

So, what you're saying is you believe in subjective truths? Well, that's fine, but what if I believe in Universal truth? Can you accept that?

I think you need to do the research yourself; you have to have a ground to stand on. There is always someone brighter, and more knowledgeable though. To omit one's ideas because they do not belong to you would be irrational; however to buy into ideas without any other information would be just as irrational.
