That phrase is nowhere to be found in the bible.
It came from Greek mythology. It is found in one of Aesop's fables:
The fable from which the quote comes:
"A Wagoner was once driving a heavy load along a very muddy way. He came to a part of the road where the wheels sank half-way into the mire, and the more the horses pulled, the deeper sank the wheels. So the Wagoner threw down his whip, and knelt down and prayed to Hercules the Strong. 'O Hercules, help me in this my hour of distress." But Hercules appeared to him, and said: 'Man, don't sprawl there. Get up and put your shoulder to the wheel. The gods help them that help themselves."

Good question! This term has been use & referred to so many times that we think it is found in the Bible, but it in fact is NOWHERE to be found. As a matter of fact, while God doesn't want us to be lazy, the main message of the Bible is to trust in Him & not in ourselves. Along the same line, the term "pride" i.e., thinking that our ideas are better than God's--or not inviting God to have a say in our lives is closely related to the phrase you asked about--" God helps those, who help themselves" This & what God wants our relationship with Him to be are actually opposites!

There isn't an actual verse that states that. It is a general statement that indicates if we follow the laws of the Word then God will protect us.
And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it." (Gen 2:15) God asked Adam and Eve to tend to the garden and he gave them one law they broke it and he cast them out and they were no longer under his protection .
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." (Rom 8:28)
"if any would not work, neither should he eat." (2 Thes 3:10) We work to get money to buy food. We dont sit at home and expect the food to appear on the table. God helps us by giving us the gifts and talents to go out and seek work.
"work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." (Phil 2:12) It is up to us to seek the face of God and to seek his guidence and then we will be rewarded.

“God helps those who help themselves” is not found in the Bible. It originated from Discourses Concerning Government written by Algernon Sydney.
