I am currently in a dispute over the word predominantly and what it means as a percentage. It has generally been taken to be above 50 percent but all of a sudden has jumped to 75 percent. My livelyhood is at stake over this and would appreciate any helpfull advice or past experience in this or similar situations.

Predominantly means "mostly." Mostly is anything over 1/2. 1/2 is 50%. Therefore, anything over 50% is "predominantly."

It has no percentile value. It generally means the greatest part, the biggest one.

If all the other parts are only small - say less than 5% then even 10% can be considered as being predominant.

It means the one that dominates. It is not a math term.

most people believe that "predominantly" means most, like 90 percent, or so. . But technically, it could be as little as 50.1 percent ( a majority), or even a plurality, which could be less than 50 percent.

If this is a legal issue, it is going to come down to how good your lawyer is.
