If it is a mouse with a ball in the base, Try cleaning it inside as they do tend to get dirty. The best mouse is an Optical Mouse the one with the light underneath, you can buy them from around £5

Does the mouse take batteries? They might be dead.
If not try uninstalling then reinstalling the software, Maybe the mouse needs a good clean or it could be just old and need replacing.

I would take it back and get a new one and see if it still does that. I did that and have a nice mouse now.

it has a possibility that the mouse is broken......or......full of dust inside so it needs to be clean........or ......the .......mouse isn't connected properly to the computer. I suggest that it is better to buy new one ........or maybe the computer hanged...........THAT's ALL

De-gunk the roller ball thingy underneath. Amazing what you'll find in there. Worse than any belly button fluff you've ever had!!
