I have a 3.1 (roughly) GPA with 2 more years of high school to go, but I got a 30 on my ACT's. Would my low GPA make college people want to turn me away, or would the ACT score make up for it?

Your G.P.A. is not bad at all and plus you still have time to improve some more! My advice is you should also take SAT exams, SAT subject tests, and a lot of AP courses also. Make best the time you have. Actually with your current G.P.A you can enter a lot of good colleges, they may not be Ivy Leagues in name sake but I feel the education quality of these colleges are comparable to those of Ivy Leagues!

Your GPA is probably your single most important factor when applying to college. Test scores tend to be weighted less. Also, not all schools accept the ACT; it's frequently considered to be a bit easier than the SAT.

Believe it or not, a 3.1 is not that low of a GPA. I got into UC Davis with a 2.79. I don't think you will have a problem finding a school that will accept you; however, you may not get into schools such as Harvard and Stanford. Good luck!

You need to work on your gpa. The great act score shows your potential for learning. The lowish gpa shows your lack of motivation in applying yourself, which could cause you problems in getting into the school you want.

When you said that you had a low GPA, I thought you meant 2.0,- 1.8. Congratulations, you are more than likely to get into any college you want and get scholarships from them. Pat yourself on the back. If you are still in school, focus on getting your GPA up, because it can't hurt.

I think you're on the right track. Your gpa is not bad. Plus, you've got two more years to raise it. Work your butt off for the next two years if you are really concerned about which college to get in to. Or, contact admissions at the colleges you might be interested in.

I had the same situation (2.7 GPA, 30 ACT) and yes, it makes it hard to get into a good school.
