if you don't speak latin yourself, how will you know that the phrase someone recommends to you doesn't have a different meaning from the one they tell you it does?

i had a friend once who bought a very expensive flame-red shot-silk blouse with an attractive chinese character design on it.

if you knew chinese the characters said:

FIRE DAMAGED GOODS. SALE. CHEAP!

i saw a young woman with an even more embarassing tattoo in chinese only three weeks ago.

i didn't say anything to her. a tattoo is much harder to change than a $900 blouse.
