What is it about certain sounds that attracts humans - is it something within the mind, brain or emotions or other?

I have always thought that 'music is memories.' The music you hear gives you some kind of visceral connection to things which have happened to you in your life. Certain songs may remind you of lovers, dates you have been on, maybe a birthday or Christmas. They may remind you of your youth or other eras of your life. When people say 'this music is from MY era' what they really mean is that that music reminds them of being young or having fun.

Music is also a big reflector of mood. Feeling happy? You will go for something poppy. Feeling down? Moody or downtempo music. Feeling energetic? Air guitar anthems. Sociable? Dance anthems. Loved up? Romantic ballads

I think it varies a lot. Personally lyrics are a major factor for me in songs although I am not sure what factors influence my choice in lyrical comositions. I have a friend who does not care about lyrics at all and just likes the music's sound.
I also like bands and songs I associate with things and people I like, for example I like the Smiths because they remind me of when I was at university. I guess the Smiths are a good band for this question in that:
"Burn down the disco/ hang the blessed DJ / because the music that they constantly play/ it says nothing ti me about my life/ hang the blessed DJ"
So perhaps music has to actually fit with your life in some way for you to like it.

Probably something to do with the beat and the amplitude/frequency. Certain beats can be associated with different emotions. I think people choose music based on how they want to feel(depending on the mood of the person).

I went to a workshop as part of my training a while back, we used very primitive drum rythms to create cyclic 'music', I found this to be very emotionally liberating.

Later we hummed whilst sitting in a circle, each person just simply humming their own pitch as they chose, this produced an eerily beutiful sound that resonated in a very deep emotional sense, it was a very powerful exercice.

So I think we choose music to listen to according to our emotional state at the time and can use music to place ourselves in an emotional state ( at least superficially ) of our choice, lively dance type music to liven us up and a slow mellow sound to relax to posit two :-)

Go Well ....

It's the feeling that someone out there relates to us or us to them at that moment. It's all about understanding.I listen to all kinds of music and whatever I relate to at that moment..it's an unseen connection, even if the artist or person wasn't trying to portray what we are feeling, we make it into what we want it to be...it's a universal passionate need for aceptance and understanding.

It's all about what type of music makes you feel happy.

Or if you want to feel blue or sad or what ever.

Music is great for helping your emotions get to where you want them to be.

You don't have slow Jazz at a teenager party because they want to be up beat, happy, care free, and have fun...

it depence how you grow up, if you grow up, very disturbedly you may like disturbing music, if you grow up in such kind of emotional situation you may like classic music or music of sypathy

for example, elton jhon's song," goodbye England rose" is very sad music and it makes you emotional.this is few examples, but the details are endless.
