Mordak and Space_man are really starting to annoy me now.
Really don't mean to flame, but will you please do some research on the programs you repeatedly keep recommending? AVG, Spybot and Lavasoft have been on a downward spiral for the last 12months+ and really don't offer the same decent protection that they used to. Yes these programs are free - but the protection they now offer are completely lacking.
Avoid these 3 programs at all costs.
My recommendation is Prevx1. This has recently been reported as having the strongest protection and removal capabilities of all security programs available today. I've repeatedly installed this program on friends' PCs that already have AVG, Spybot and Lavasoft up-to-date and active - yet Prevx1 is managing to find and remove over 30 infections that these 3 programs are all missing.
They are currently offering a Free Trial of their product which will scan your machine and automatically remove any infections free of charge. You can download this Free Trial from their website at:

I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)
The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)
The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (www.spybot.info)
AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.
These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.
The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

Download any of these programmes that you dont have. Update them when installed and then run them one at a time. These will help remove any unwanted nasties there now on your PC. and will go along way in keeping you safe on the internet.
Antiviral. (free)
AVG free. Excellent protection available from: http://www.Grisoft.com
Don't use two antiviral products together as they may be incompatible. If your Antiviral trial has run out, then remove product from your computer and get the AVG installed.
Anti-spyware (all free)
Essential products are: Adaware SE from: http://www.lavasoft.com
Spybot SD http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html
Spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Windows Defender - from Microsoft downloads.
PC starter kit at download.com 20 of the best recommended programes for people new or less advanced in computers. Check all three pages, at bottom see Security/Tools/Fun
http://www.download.com/PC-Starter-Kit/2001-12350_4-0.html?tag=dir
C Cleaner.http://www.ccleaner.com/
This will tell you a lot about what is on your computer, such as running programmes, cookies, History, settings etc. and will help you clean up and remove unwanted items. Be careful how you use it as it is a very powerful programme and you should read the help index before you do anything with it.
Hope this information is of help to you and others.

Buy Norton Anti Virus. You can either buy the disc in a store and download it yourself, or purchase and download the software directly from the Norton Website.
I've been using it for a few years, am on-line every day, and have never had a virus get through.
It also contains a good system wide virus scanner.
You should also enable your Windows Firewall.
Don't worry about running it on top of the Norton, you will be fine.

You are scared because of what? Viruses yes.
well you don't have to go to many sites to find them.
look there are a whole heap of free anti virus scanners available on the net so if you are worried just go and grab a copy of one ,install it and then you should be ok unless you don't keep it up to date.
Try the link below they have a free scanner and it is very easy to use.
http://www.kaspersky.com/
There is a linkin the top right of the screen to get a free trial copy of their virus scanner, grab it install it and use it until it runs out then get another one if you must or buy a full version of one.
