i asked this question here:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvesR5fek0xLRMs3rXfGhBzsy6IX?qid=20060708114357AAcgJQk

basically i think it's just conformity now. it used to be religion, then bogus medical research that made pple cut off foreskins. now medical research says the foreskin has health benefits. otherwise evolution would have weeded it out anyway.

wow things are starting to get interesting on y1a re: foreskins!!!

a most informative video introducing the benefits of the foreskin i have seen is linked in sources below

in february a bill was introduced in the US to ammend the '96 bill banning female genital mutilation, so that male genital mutilation is also banned.

foreskins are very important! DO NOT have it cut off due to bogus claims that medical research says it reduces the likelihood of disease. The foreskin contributes to the body's immune system, specifically reducing the likelihood of urinary tract infections, which is the most commonly cited reason FOR cutting off the foreskin, unbelievably! Have a look at that video i pointed out above. DO NOT cut it off because of conformity (the number one reason these days in the US). Do i even need to say why? DO NOT cut it off due to religion. NEITHER christianity NOR judeism require foreskin removal.

Yvonne K's answer here has the following to say about Christianity and foreskin removal:

As a Christian, I am NOT bound by the Abrahamic Covenant, but by the Christian Covenant. Christ's crucifixion is the only blood sacrifice required for my salvation.

Further, Paul, in his letter to the Galatians, explicitly states that circumcision of Christians is an affront to God. I suppose this is one of those "sins of the fathers that is visited upon their children."

So here is the Biblical bottom line- Jews should sacrifice animals and their children's foreskins, make wave offerings of grain, burnt offerings on the Temple altar, flawlessly obey all of the Ten Commandments, and several other practices, if they wish to enter Heaven. Christians only need to accept Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, as their personal Lord and Savior. No blood sacrifice necessary! The penultimate sacrifice was made almost two millennia ago on a cross at Calvary- NOTHING Man can do will improve upon that sacrifice, and the very attempt to do so is an affront to God Almighty.

Another answer from the same question about christianity and foreskin removal:

Why are people here saying that the Bible says you have to circumcise? Catholics believe in the Bible, but most Catholics worldwide do not circumcise their children. It's highly unlikely that the Pope is circumcised.

No. 2297 of the Catechism, "Respect for bodily integrity," states in part: "Except when performed for strictly therapeutic medical reasons, directly intended amputations, mutilations, and sterilizations performed on innocent persons are against the moral law."

No national medical organisation (not even in Israel) recommends routine male circumcision for medical reasons, so if you're Catholic, you should NOT circumcise your children.

I can't say it makes much sense for anyone else either...

Finally, foreskin removal is not a requirement for a baby boy to become a Jew. This was stated by a Rabbi in the Circumcision episode of Penn and Teller. This website by jews against circumcision makes the comical remark that "Jews are some of the smartest people in the world. We are 1/3rd of 1% of the population, yet we hold 33% of Nobel prizes. We are smart enough to understand that mutilating a little boys' penis is not an acceptable practice in modern times." On the same website it is said that:

"Rabbi Moses Maimonides himself acknowledged that circumcision is done to desensitize the penis and curb masturbation." How horrifying that surgery should be carried out to intentionally reduce the sensitivity of one's sexual organs. What does that say about that religion's view of sex? I'm so glad i didn't grow up a Jew because of this... eg see my entries below about sex.

This website about Jewish circumcision provides thorough coverage of the pain it causes to the infant boy (how does 'causing pain' and 'infant boy' appear in the same sentence btw??? this is just so hypocritical!) and how this goes against Judaism. On that website i found the most coherent...

APPLICATION OF JEWISH LAWS AND VALUES

Judaism values ethics above both doctrine and reason. The growing awareness of pain and harm connected with circumcision leads to questions about ethical considerations. How do we begin to justify the practice of circumcision on ethical grounds? It is significant relative to this question that, according to an authoritative book on Judaism, "the Torah prohibits the torture or causing of pain to any living creature."47 Now that we know some of the consequences of circumcision, Jewish law (Lev. 19:11; Exodus 23:1) obligates us to be open and honest about it. In addition, we may ask if, given a choice, we would consent to being circumcised. If not, then considering Hillel's encapsulation of Judaism: "What is hateful to you, do not to your fellow-creature" (Sab. 31a), should we force circumcision on another?

Significantly, virtually all that has been written about circumcision over the centuries ignores the infant's experience. An infant being circumcised is restrained while having part of his body cut off. Imagine yourself in the same situation. From the infant's perspective, this is a physical attack. His physical struggle to escape and his piercing screams are evidence of an appropriate response to attack. It is a violation of Torah law to physically assault or harm another person (Exodus 21:18-27). Jewish law recognizes a newborn infant as a person if the infant has been born after a full-term pregnancy.48 With circumcision, we generally overlook the humanity of the newborn infant and his awareness, perception, sensitivity, and meaningful responsiveness, though these abilities have been thoroughly documented by the latest research.49

Finally, this website makes the point that foreskin removal is no longer automatic in Jewish households.
I still like the one about how smart the Jews are supposed to be and yet they still somehow justify to themselves this barbaric torture of foreskin removal.

The only question i have is, will a Jew get a Nobel Prize for human rights for eradicating routine foreskin removal?! Sounds like a question for y1a!!!

Maybe a Nobel Prize will come out of eradicating sexual surgery in infants in general. I think that would be a really good one.

Isn't it terrible how humanity has this history of cutting off parts of our baby's genitalia??? I think it is so good, we have made such progress, in stopping it being done to girls. Now we just need to finish it off and stop it happening to boys.

Then we will have really done something. We will have really risen above the barbarism of our ancestors.

I just can't wait for this to be finally done for boys and men though. It will at last say that we, as a society, acknowledge your pain and suffering, we no longer treat your bodies as disposable.

This belief has, i think, led to our denigration of female genital mutilation, on the one hand, but our refusal to outlaw male genital mutilation on the other hand.

It seems inconceivable that such unconstitutional discrimination could take place, but there you go.

This is the modern world eh.

Why Do Guys Get Circumcised

Well actually not all American men are circumcised but most of them are, God taught us Jews that it was a sign of our pact with Him, it was commanded to Abraham that he and every Jewish male baby would undergo this procedure which is called Brit Milah and it is to be performed by a Mohel on the 8th day of life of the Jewish baby. Being a cleansing practice it had spread to other cultures that practice it for sanitary reasons rather than religious. Parents who oppose Circumcision probably don't sympathize with Jewish practices.

If you want a boyfriend so bad, then I highly recommend following this https://biturl.im/aU00u Since you've never dated or been kissed before, it's going to be hard to get a boyfriend if you don't know what to do but once you know what to do, you'll be able to get a boyfriend pretty easily and can share your dating stories with your friends and experience those feelings yourself. You'll even be able to attract guys you might feel is out of your league. I suggest going on a bunch of dates before choosing one guy to be your boyfriend. Have fun.

All boys are born intact. In fact circumcision is an outdated torture that should be abolished. It does nothing to help the function of the penis and actually loses some of the nerves in the penis. I am intact and love it and I have had no complaints From anybody I have been with. The main thing is to teach the young boys how to keep their penis clean and they will have no hygiene problems and better sex because of the extra nerve tissue
The biggest supporter are already cut, mutilated, have part of their penis thrown away so of course they support it or otherwise their parents would be wrong for having them cut. I am an older man and have never had an infection, premature ejaculation STD or any of the other things people say WILL happen . In 20 yrs the norm will be intact boys and everyone who is cut will be different

years ago it was because of hygiene but nowadays in a lot of societies that is not an issue. showers are great. the other reason is religious and another one is because the father is done he gets his son done..

There are a lot of good reasons for men to be circumcised! Health, hygiene and sex.

I had my sons circumcised after my youngest brother had tons of problems with his foreskin and needed to be circumcised!

It is much easier on a baby and its a good preventative step to future problems!

Lots of love,
