How do you have visa if you don't know where you're going?
Anyway,
The best tip is always travel overland, it's much cheaper, you see way more and you meet more backpackers, as they also travel overland.
The worst thing to do is getting an around-the-world-ticket it may be cheaper than normal tickets, but you'll have time pressure and the best things always turn up in the last second, when you have to take an airplane somewhere else.

It isn't going to be cheap, but it is cheaper to travel by land. Travel through Europe by train. Make friends and share hotel expenses, if possible.

You can search for people or families willing to let you sleep on their couch (or extra room) for little or no money at all. You can look at profiles and pictures.
