I am french and i can tell you we are not mad at him.
We're not like the english who burnt life-size dolls of David beckham after his red card during the 1998 World Cup...
Zidane was awarded number 1 personality loved by the french.
He is the best player we've had in 20 years since Platini... and what's more important he is shy, humble, caring for others and has temper...The french would all want to be like him (tough to realize all this at the same time for anyone and particularly for the french...)
We cannot excuse what he did on the pitch but honestly we forgive him becaus e he has given so much to the french...he is an icon over here...
Excuse my english if i mad mistakes...

Zut alors.....I think the times have moved on....in a sense....(it might not be a good thing)
Zidane has a different image to Beckham - Zidane has never been a squesky clean good guy, and so it's almost expected that he will misbehave.
He won an award......and I think the French will overlook his misdemeanours.....because he does have that je ne sais quoi,n'est-ce-pas?

Zidane is praised-
Zidane is french not English .
English media will take any person to high and lows -
just like they are doing to portugese ronaldo - they are taking him low down - so much so that he is giving up thoughts of playing for manu.
zidane is french.
people realize that if he had acted this way, he must be been provoked so much so to do it like this.
just imagine , anyone in his last encounter would want to take a cautious approact so as not to embarass -
there must have been some thing really bad.

They love Zidane and they will always love him and honor him because most feel that whatever Materazzi said to him he was right to head-butt him. It is rumored that Materazzi called Zidane's sister a whore.
Anyway, Zidane was greeted and hailed by President Chirac so that should tell you how much he is loved in France despite being sent out.

Probably not. They probably also think that Henry's baiting of Puyol was yet another fine example of French flair and all round above the law brilliance. The only honest player they had at the world cup was Ribbery - who they berated after every game. Cheese eating surrender monkeys.

They still love Zidane. This isn't the first time he's exhibited thugish behaviour by the way.

the french are not mad with zidane judging by the crowds that met the french team all chanting zindanes name. they are not mad, they just feel if he would have stayed on the pitch they could have won the game.
