I just ventured into the wireless home network world recently myself so I'll try to share what I've learned!

First of all, you need a broadband internet connection. This is available from many different services, and depending on your location, you can shop around and pick what is best for you.

Secondly, you need a wireless router. These are usually provided by your broadband internet company, but if not, you can buy them at other places as well. The wireless router transmits the signal to the network via radio waves and connects to your main PC.

Lastly, you will need a way to connect your laptop to the network. If you're buying a brand new laptop, there is a very good chance that it comes with a wireless card built in. If this is the case, you wouldn't need to buy any extra equipment to connect. If this is not the case, you would need to buy a network adapter.

If you want to read more detailed information about all of this, you can read this article from Microsoft:

Hope this helps!

Most wireless home networks center around a wireless router.

If your laptop has wireless support then you are in business. If not you will need to buy a wireless 802.11g adaptor, either USB or PCMICA depending on what your laptop ports are available. USB is preferred. There is also 54 Mbps and 108 Mbps speed option. Your choice depends on the speed of your ADSL modem.

I am using NetGear products and they work fine for me.

OK. I will help you to know the basics. for any internet connection you need a modem, but for wireless, you need a router, which provides signals for internet over a range of distance in and around your home. buy any broadband, they offer a wireless connection. it all comes by practice really. you seek help until you know it too much.

ok you firstly want to look at getting ADSL or cable broadband you then need to get a wiseless router which will set you back about $120 you then also need a cardbus adapter which will set you back $40.
Setting them all up is pretty easy and the install program that comes with them will help you do that.

You do need broadband though as dialup is just a waste of time with wireless or the other way around.

You will need a wireless router (Linksys is a good home brand) and a network cable to hook up your serving (main) PC to it. All the other computers using the network must have wireless network cards installed on them. The setup directions are very simple to follow.
