Nope. It all depends on how well their answer is. If thier just doin' it for points and their the only one that answered I'd only give 'em either non or 1 star. If the anwer is worth it then I'd go anywhere from 3 to 5 stars.

The Asker is the almighty here.
One thing I've learned thus far is that some Asker's are better than others.
Can one truly give a 5 star rating given the Asker hasn't asked a 5 star question?

Here's an example of what I mean!
DUDE. MY COMPUTER DOESN'T WORK RIGHT ANYMORE CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now bare in mind I'm no rocket scientist but it's my opinion that the example question has no merit. Not even deserving a 1 star rating. The example leaves out all the critical particulars needed to make an educated guess in order to help the said Asker!

Get my drift?

Most Asker's that come to yahoo questions and answers seem to be here on a serious note hoping to gain some insight to a problem they are struggling with or in my case, to help those inquiring minds the best I'm able.

Given all this, we have to assume that most Asker's, weather articulate or not with there question, think they have asked a 5 star question.
If this scenario holds correct then the Asker is going to reward you with up to 5 stars according to how well they received and perceive the knowledge extended to them.

That wore me out, Hope I was able to help!

This, for me, accounts for all the categories I have question(s) in as I don't have any questions in "polls":

If it was the only decent answer - I do give five stars. Some answers are just from people wanting the points - and it is nice to have one person take some time out of their busy schedule to answer a question in a way I can understand and answer all that I've asked (woah, what a run-on).

If someone gave me a decent answer but I didn't agree (or know to be different) with all they said (like one fact that wasn't part of my answer but they added in anyway) - I give four stars.

So far I haven't had to give lower than that but I haven't asked many questions (I'm more of an answer-er myself). If I have a question that I think deserves more answers than what I have I usually delete it and repost it later (when I ask a question I want good answers instead of all ones saying "i dunno" "maybe" - because then I can't give a best answer - because NONE of them are the best).

I hate when I can't get a best answer because I hate deleting and reposting. =( It makes me sad that no one would have taken my question seriously enough to sit down and answer decently.

I give 5 stars if the best answer covers everything I have asked about, in just about every category except this one...

In this one, most of the answers are often really similar so it would have to be something really, really exceptional to get the 5 (making me laff does it tho)

Sadly, I haven't been on much lately so some questions I asked have passed on to 'in-voting' which I hate having happen cos ppl have taken the trouble to reply - sometimes, in that case, I go back after it has been decided and put something in the 'comment' section

Most generally never under a 4...and perhaps out of all that I have answered, maybe 4 only 5 times....i always give a 5 as these people are taking, look at it this way, 'Billable Time" and they are often pouring their hearts out......saying things here they might not say to another. Taking a chance.....yes, I give my heart on here and I give it back to some who probably don't expect it. That makes me happy to do so....and so it goes. Often though I wonder why I don't get more answers...for I have some pretty good questions......then again maybe I am totally delusional.
Well you asked and this...is my....reply.....THX

I've never given less than five stars, for any answer. If the difference between having a good day, and having a mediocre day is a star or two, I will not be the cause of a mediocre day. I picked the best answer I could find from the answerers... Best means five stars. It didn't ask me for a 'worst' answer.

NO. If the answer is vague or lacking much info, I'd give at most a 3. If the answer is detailed or very informative or if it's the only answer I give a 5. For the latter, because he/she made an effort to answer.

No, I don't. Not always is the answer worth 5 stars, even the best one.

No, because the best answer doesn't have to be that great to deserve 5 stars
