I need advice on what to learn and who to talk to and so on and so forth to become a video game programmer. I am currently learning C and C++. Thank you

along with C, C++ you need to know directX and Open GL programming.. these are the engines used to develop games and also used to render 3D graphics on computer.
along with this you need to know the mathematical aspects of graphics which will help you take deep dive in graphics programming. but do the above things only if you want to take game programming as a career.
if this is only your hobby and that too a non serious one and want quick results without any hassel then the answers given above me are appropriate for you.

Start producing mods for games, I know two people who've become full time that way...
One did mods for a RPG and now works for its developer
The other did sounds and models for Microsoft Train Simulator and now is Published by a company called Just Trains. He still mostly makes addons but had his first standalone game - 'Train Driver - West Somerset Railway' released last yeat

yeah know c++ is a great advantage, also graphical programs like paintshop pro, flash,
if u do a google search for beta testers this will help, since most companies release the new games for people to test it add there own code and send it back to them
