You shouldn't have problems getting your kids back all things being even, but; I don't feel from what you have written here that all things are even. The grandparents apparently have more money than you. I am guessing you never married, or you are not married. At any rate, you have to demonstrate to the court that you are capable of raising the children on your own, that means financially and otherwise. If you have had any run ins with the law you need to show that they are all behind you now. It might help to talk to child services to see if they can advise you how to put on a better case. You need to listen well. They are there for the children and not you. You need to be there for the children and not for you. As their mother you have the high ground systemwise. Just make all things look even and you win. Show you can provide a home, an education, and the basics. That should be enough.

Both of the answers already posted are very good. It is sad that your parents are doing this. Hopefully you are not giving them any justification for this. If not fight get your children back and make sure that you set up monitored visitation for the grandparents to protect yourself and your children.

It really doesn't take very much money.
You can file with family court that you're indigent.
And file for a competency hearing, but I would have some pretty good character witnesses

Try looking in your phone book (or online) for free legal aid in your area. There usually are limitations on what they can do to help you but they can at least point you in the right direction.

My heart goes out to you and I wish you the best of luck!

Go to court and file an action to recover custody of your kids.
