GOOD QUESTION...
I only started on this thing today, and I figured that there are a lot of people that ask boring questions and even more people that answer even more boringly...
For this reason I only ask really stupid questions (and answer as stupidly as possible also) as I think these are far more entertaining: However, I have been very disappointed by the answers so far as it is the same people who answer things boringly.
Mostly I have been insulted by these people - bless 'em! I think either I am missing the point of this web site or they are, either way I will continue my quest to dumb this thing down despite the abuse I receive

Most people do not know how to use search engine properly or they are just plain lazy to learn how to use search engine built-in powerful/ hidden functionalities. For example, to find a definition in Google, all one need to do is to type...
define: subject matter
Most dudes don't understand how to use Boolean functions or even the most simple searching basic skill such as typing out what you need in double quote to force the phrase to be display.
Anyway, asking directly seems to be more human and interactive rather than asking a search engine.

I think they are seeking an easy question to post. And then there's lots of people that are not really computer literate and know how to use search engines to find answers to all questions. Nor do they know how to word the question to find an answer. The more literate and educated you are the better searcher you are on the computer or anywhere else for that matter. All of us using this site are of different education levels and that's why there's such a wide gamut of questions. We're all different!

Hmm... When someone else asked this question, one user replied that they honestly did not know how to properly use a search engine for research so it was easier to ask the question than learn how to do it himself.
To think that most of this questions could be answered in less than a minute does hurt sometimes. But that's what the point system is for - emotional compensation.

people are morons sometimes. but other times i think they just want to get answers and opinions from other people rather than a computer generated answer.

They want to know what you think, and they would rather ask someone else than ask a computer. They also want to be able to ask questions for clarification, and they like the back-and-forth exchange of conversation.
It's a way of maintaining face-to-face relationships.

Where's your sense of fun. Isn't it much more fun to read 'live' answers, some spot on, some way off, some quirky, some silly and some downright rude.

Great question, and I would say that more than just some are. I'm cynical, I would say that most people are.
