I gave birth on Thursday and on Sunday morning I woke up with lots of swelling in my feet. It's starting to get so swollen that it kinda hurts, especially in my right foot. Is this normal? I never had this problem with any of my other deliveries.

Yes it is VERY normal for you feet to swell after birth, if they weren't already swollen during the whole 3rd trimester. It will take some time for your body to adjust back to looking and feeling normal post partum. As for achy feet? Oh, my feet, both of them, killed for about 8 months after giving birth. It felt like I had arthritis. Hopefully that won't be the case for you, but it was for me, but now I am fine, can even wear high heels if I choose to.

Good luck and hang in there.

Yes it is normal....walk, drink lots of fluids, eat a lot of cucumber (it is a good diuretic), and try to keep cool. If the pain does not go away soon, or you have a redness in either leg then have it checked out by your doctor or midwife to rule out anything more sinister.

its normal to have water retention.. what you can do about this is to reduce your salt intake and breast feed if possible.

However, I dont think the swelling should actually hurt. Since you it hurts for you, I think you should consider seeing a doctor.

I had that problem after I had my daughter and the DR suggested that I just keep my feet elevated.... it takes a while to get all the extra fluid out of your body after you have a baby

It is normal, drink lots of water, it is the best way to get rid of it. Sounds funny doesn't it? Drink water to get rid of water.....but it is true, and put your feet up, it will help.
