Giving reward to a witness is not prohibited per se if the witness is credible and truthful. Thus, no breach of any rule is violated.

The breach lies with those that Buy or sell justice. Their are many here among us, that believe if the motivation is grounded, the means are acceptable.
Legally their may or may not have been a breach. The courts will end up ruling on it at some point, way down the road. Spiritually their has been of course.
All I can suggest to those that choose that path is to remember that old Beatles tune...Instant karma is gonna get you, it's gonna knock you off of your feet!

No. Expert-witnesses also get payed.

Though it may be expected the opposition will use this to question the validity of a witness.
