Wow, some people have some anger issues...

As for the red card, it was justified by the rules. But read on for more info...

Based upon various reports from professional lip readers who have studied the tapes of the head butt, it appears he said something about him being a "dirty butt-******* muslim", and various comments about his "mother and sister being a whore". Plus there was a debated comment about him being a "dirty muslim terrorist". The terrorist comment has been supported by a few lip readers but denied by a few others. Additionally, the italian denied the terrorist comment by stating that "he didn't even know what it meant"...

Personally, if he said that crap to me and there were any racist remarks like that, I would have likely hit him too. I'd put up with the "your mama's a whore comment" but the religous comment and the terrorist thing, went too far.

Just a side note though, Zidane's mother had been hospitalized only hours before the game so this likely played a part in his reaction.

Now, I am German so I could care less who won, but there is more to this story than is being told... Zidane's actions were wrong but the italian guy should have kept his mouth shut too. If the muslim comment and/or the terrorist comment are true, then the Itlalian guy deserved exactly what he got. And if it was me, I would have likely kicked him in the nuts afterwards. However if these things weren't actually said, which I doubt, then Zidane is a disgrace.

That being said, there's no room anywhere for racist and ignorant comments like that and if they were made, actions should be taken against the italian player.

In America, we have been hearing nothing about the reasons soccer will never catch on. The 2006 World Cup didn't help. All tournament, the violence, poor refereeing, diving and lack of offensive play were all cited as reasons the WC would never be big in this country. Then, in the final, when impressionable Americans watch the world's biggest sporting event, Zidane does something stupid. It is not helping the image of the sport. And that headbutt may have done more than lose France the title: It hurt the image of the sport in a country that needs all the help it can get in receiving new fans.

Even if he was provoked, there is no excuse for it. Zidane lost France the title. It's a shame.

the card was always there - no matter what !

If the on fields referee saw it with their own eyes, then the decision was the right one.

the speculation is that the 4th referee saw it andthen informed thelines man , who in turn informed the field referee.
which is against fifa rules- 4 official cannot interfere in the game - just like he cannot tell if the ball crossed the line into the goal - he should not say any thing about fouls etc.

so if the referee or liensman saw it then the card is legal -

zidane must be a player from another planet, but as a human being he belongs to this planet and humans can be provoked.

Zidane's reaction was wrong. Players cannot go around head butting other players. Zidane deserved a red card. I don't like Materazzi as a player and he did provoke Zidane, but Zidane should have let his football do the talking.

It was a right call by the referree, whether we like it or not. You dont justify a foul move (head-butting someone) and get away with it. Whatever Materazzi said to tick him off, he could have dealt with it after the championship. It was ironic for Zidane. But he is a good and elegant player all in all. Just the temper though.

It was the right call by the ref... I just can't belive Zidane would want to end his career on that note.

Who knows, maybe we should take that as a symbol that he's not going to retire yet.

TO HELL WITH LIP READERS...AND THOSE W/O CONTACT INFO..THEY'RE TOO PATHETIC TO HAVE THEIR OPINION CHALLENGED.....

ANYWAY

LIP READERS ARE BASED ON SPECULATION AND HEARSAY...
IT WON'T PASS IN COURT...

THEY SUBPOENA THE PERSON WHO SAID IT AND MAKE HIM SAY IT IN COURT...

how many times in sports here in the USA do we have taunting and provoking in sports??? do you see ballplayers beating the bloody hell out of people for a few words? ok besides attacking fans in the NBA...but even then what happened to that guy? Suspended from that point on and for the following YEAR!..that is how you take care of it. But since Zidaine is retiring..who cares..right? he'll never serve that card..so it doesn't matter..

in order to show how great of a player you are..you must rise ABOVE their level...not lower yourself to it....

so the fact that it cost France the cup..was awesome..
