It's not true that some people don't have wisdom teeth. All people have them . However, they creates problems only in some people.

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars are the last teeth to erupt. This occurs usually between the ages of 17 and 25. There remains a great deal of controversy regarding whether or not these teeth need to be removed. It is generally suggested that teeth that remain completely buried or un-erupted in a normal position are unlikely to cause harm. However, if these impacted teeth are in an abnormal position (a dentist can show you this on an x-ray), their potential for harm should be assessed

Wisdom teeth generally cause problems when they erupt partially through the gum

I hope the above helps.

Humans are omnivores, which means that we can eat both meat and vegetable matter. To do this we are equipped with different sorts of teeth:
Incisors - the chisel-shaped ones at the front for biting chunks off of things;
Canines - the pointy ones at the sides of your mouth which are used for tearing into meat (meat eating animals - and Dracula! - have very pronounced canines)
Molars - the square-shaped ones at the side that are used for grinding and chewing. Molars are actually divided into two sorts - pre-molars nearer the front and molars towards the back.

In children there is a first set of teeth called "milk teeth" which are smaller. These gradually fall out to be replaced by the larger adult teeth. This is necessary because a child's jaw simply isn't big enough to hold all the adult-size teeth. As the child grows into an adult the milk teeth are lost and are replaced on a one-to-one basis by larger versions which go to make up the adult set of teeth.

But the jaw still has some growing left to do and additional adult teeth appear as well. Later on an additional molar is added at the very back of each side of the mouth, top and bottom. These late-arriving molars were called "Wisdom Teeth" because they came along when you were older (and supposedly wiser!).

These Wisdom Teeth were once an essential part of human dentition because the tough diet would wear down the other molars and the Wisdom Teeth would enable the person to still be able to chew and eat (remember this was in "cave-man" times when there weren't any food blenders, soft foods... or false teeth!).

The need for such additional teeth has gradually been lost because our diet has become increasingly softer and easy to chew and as a consequence the appearance of Wisdom Teeth in human adults is now very varied - some people produce normal full-size Wisdom Teeth; others produce smaller, perhaps mal-formed teeth and still others don't have them at all. My granddfather's Wisdom Teeth only appreared when he was in his 50's and were small perfect balls with no root at all and just popped out of his gums! Sometimes the jaw isn't big enough to take the size of the Wisdom Teeth as they try to force their way out and this causes a lot of pain and in these cases the teeth may have to be removed.

so lucky for those without wisdom tooth, that's what my dentist say, firstly, the wisdom tooth serve no purpose and very difficult to maintain, most of them will eventually decay and have to pull it out. A wisdom tooth extraction costs about $800 a tooth, very expensive.

i'd pick hockey as a leading cause of the lack of *any* kind of teeth. And this leads in to their uses as well - they stop the puck from going down your throat

with our current human diet, no, we don't need them. and the fact that some have them and some don't shows how the human race is evolving.
