Okay. I was watching TSN (a sports channel in Canada) and apparently this is what Materazzi might have said to Zidane:

"I hope that you and your family die a horrible death. Go f*ck yourself."

Of course this may not be true, seeing as how they had someone read Materazzi's lips. I'm not sure, but I think TSN said that this "lip reading" came from BBC.

No, I am not hating on Zidane nor Materazzi. I have just been reading a lot of questions and answers lately on the incident and I was wondering what you guys might think of what I have heard.

So yeah. Do you think this is really what Materazzi said? Have you heard anything else about what might have been said?

This statement along with a few others have been reported by lip readers over the course of the match. Just for FYI, Zidane knows italian and a few other languages since he is from Algeria. See below for more...

Based upon various reports from professional lip readers who have studied the tapes of the head butt, it appears he said something about him being a "dirty butt-******* muslim", and various comments about his "mother and sister being a whore". Plus there was a debated comment about him being a "dirty muslim terrorist". The terrorist comment has been supported by a few lip readers but denied by a few others. Additionally, the italian denied the terrorist comment by stating that "he didn't even know what it meant"...

Personally, if he said that crap to me and there were any racist remarks like that, I would have likely hit him too. I'd put up with the "your mama's a whore comment" but the religous comment and the terrorist thing, went too far.

Just a side note though, Zidane's mother had been hospitalized only hours before the game so this likely played a part in his reaction.

Now, I am German so I could care less who won, but there is more to this story than is being told... Zidane's actions were wrong but the italian guy should have kept his mouth shut too. If the muslim comment and/or the terrorist comment are true, then the Itlalian guy deserved exactly what he got. And if it was me, I would have likely kicked him in the nuts afterwards. However if these things weren't actually said, which I doubt, then Zidane is a disgrace.

That being said, there's no room anywhere for racist and ignorant comments like that and if they were made, actions should be taken against the italian player.

Rhonette,
What you've heard on TSN the Canadian Channel (I watched that too) is what most people have been reading/hearing about. There are some variations in it but the main idea or concept is consistent. I wouldn't have believed this at first, but considering that there was a forensic lip-reader who was actually employed to analyze the scene, I have changed my mind. What I found odd, was that Italian lip-readers told BBC this. Now if you're an Italian sitting in the stadium watching Italy play in the finals, you are definetely going to defend your side -- so why would you tell BBC something that would make Materazzi look bad? The reason is because he clearly must have said something very inhumane that made even the italians take the initiative to tell this to the press.
Anyways, Canadian law states 'a person is innocent until proven guilty.' So, I guess to me, I don't really know what to believe for sure until there is further proof. And, if this is really what happend, I feel truly very sorry for you Zidane.

I remember that in one interview, Materazzi did claim that it was one of those insults that fly around the pitch all the time. I'm not too sure if that would also be categorized as that. It would make more sense to believe what Zidane said in his interview with the French station, something about his mother and sister.

YOU PEOPLE IT'S NOT THE FIRST TIME ZIDANE DOES THIS THING(headbuting a player),IT'S NOT FAIR TO FIND HIM EXCUSES!!!
We don't know what Materazzi told to Zidane, these are just speculations.Materazzi talked to the media, denied that he called him a terrorist, but Zidane didn't talk to the press...So who's to blame?Zidane can't face the media because he can't explain what he did.!!!

here in Switzerland, near Italian border, rumors has it that Materazi said he's a terrorist and said something bad regarding Zidane's sister.
Well in the next few days Zidane might be appearing in public and explain himself.
I'm an Italian national supporter but really sooooo sad on what happened to Mr. Zidane. I like and respect Mr. Zidane and I wish him happiness and peace.

i also heard that an anti-racism group in france will petition fifa to investigate this matter. they say their sources i.e. wc football officials did confirm that the italian player had called zidance a "dirty terrorist". i don't know about the other reports that he insulted zizou's family, too, but i'm inclined to give credence to the racist remarks because of the concrete action taken by the french group. i just hope they're not doing it to gain political mileage from the situation. personally, i think fifa should investigate without prompting from anybody. anyway, the italian player has denied making the comment. he said he didn't even know what terrorist means. cheeky one.

EVERYTHING IS HEARSAY AND SPECULATION TILL YOU HEAR FROM MATERAZZI OR ZIDAINE...PREFERABLY MATERAZZI...BECAUSE IT IS SELF ADMITTED..

BUT IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER...PROVOKING AND TAUNTING IS PART OF THE GAME REGARDLESS OF THE SPORT..IT IS ALWAYS THERE...IF I DECKED EVERY PERSON FOR EVERY COMMENT I HEARD.. I'D HAVE BEEN BANNED FROM EVERY SPORT IN HIGH SCHOOL..

THERE IS NO REASON EVER TO DO THAT IN THE PUBLIC EYE...DEAL WITH IT LATER OFF THE PITCH...

i dont think they speak english any way.....maybe italian..coz zaidan lived there for 3 years in Italy Torino.

but i think this is the true story:

Matarazzi had insulted Zaidan's family and Religion "ISLAM".

and because Zaidan is very nice...he didn't tell the media that Matarazzi insulted Islam, and he kept it for him self, because if he did announce that Matrazzi insult Islam, Muslims all over the world will walk out in the street with Italian flag burns and wanted to kill matarazzi, for insulting Islam and Muslims.. so it is more like political issue, and Zaidan saved Mattarazi's ***,,,,,,

That's why Fifa gave ziadan the Best Out standing Player in world cup 2006.....

thank u
