well, it is very unfortunate what happened to your best friend. I think that it is fortunate that your friend did not have the same views of his parents. You sound like you were close. Please do not judge all white people by what his parents did. Not all white people are fake. Just like not all black people are fake. But the world around us shows us the differences and prejudices only and usually not the good things inside of people and of this world.
Assuming that you and your best friend were the same age since you were in school together....I think that should show you that there is a new generation that is trying to emerge from the old statistic of black vs. white. It is an old and stupid thing racism.
I used to be in the military. I associated with all kinds of people from all different backgrounds. I have meet many people. Many people are afraid to bring up sensitive subjects to people of other races because they are afraid to offend them. This does not mean they are racist, it means they are actually trying to make the world a better place and lessen racism.
It is terrible that Mike's parent were like that, but please do not judge all people by one group of people's actions. All of you were/are hurting from the loss of him. It is not a time to make decisions about life, it is a time to heal. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Sorry you lost your friend, and sorry it was by a drunk driver. Also sorry that his folks acted like that toward you.
Now about your question, the quotes around so many might disappear and the white can be taken out from in front of people.
This gives you the general case, not any less sad but more accurate. What can I say, It is like that all over. I have met racists of every colour. And bigotry based on religion, nation, sex, and profession. Many attempts to change it have failed, and even in some ways have only added fuel to the fire, like the very christian KKK as an outgrowth of religious fundamentalism, but the religious and the nationalism are really just alibis for an underlying creed. If you think it is just whites you should take another look around at the stuff going on in Africa, Asia,Chechnya, Bosnia, Ireland, France, India, Malaysia, the Philippines......, all over the world. people as a general practise hate people generally and any prophet who tries to change it has always gotten martyred, and I think always will.
The best thing in my humble opinion is to accept it for what it is and live my life by my lights, in my way.

I can understand why you might feel this way based on your personal experience but it is not like that with all white people. I can tell you as a white woman that yes, many whites do not like blacks also many asians and hispanics don't like blacks either. That is wrong but you should not condemn a whole race like that. Those people are wrong for doing what they did to you but they had a son that was your dear friend. He obviously was different. It's hard but you can't let things like these get to you. If you do you are missing out on a lot of good people and then that becomes your loss in life. Don't give them that power.

Sorry for your loss man. And I am white. White like all over... sept the pink bits. And I'm still sorry for your loss. White black, brown, red, yellow, tan... Where does all this racist rubbish come from. My mum is English, I'm English, my Dad's English, my Nan on dads side is english, but on my mums side theirs french, dutch, some scandinavian and other bits too. So I guess my heritage is I'm a bitsa. I dont have a problem with that. Why should other people. I think whats important here is you lost a great mate and you need time to accommodate and adjust to that loss. If his parents are 'tools', then they are Tools. Dont let it get you down, because by allowing that, they degrade your mate's memory. It sounds to me like you think more of him than that. And please, dont you become a racist too. You and Mike didnt know what it was till recently. Good. Dont let it drag you any further down. From how you sound, you're hurting and angry. That is normal and understandable. But dont let the blackness overwhelm you. Sorry that you lost a great mate, you will be able to remember him without the hollow in you and you will get to a place where you can move along your life's path. Good luck, stay on top and Noli Illegitemae carborundum (dont let the bastards grind you down).

dont think that we are all that way. i am not, my family was not, most of my friends are not, some are interacially married and some are not, but we all do not think of the race thing. it is what is inside that we choose our friends in my group. we all go to eachother's home, go out to restaurants, whatever, and it does not matter what ethnicity each person is. if we meet up with someone who has something to say about it, we all stick up for each other immediately. (and we are between 24 and 63 in ages, so there are more than one generation in the group). too bad you had to have a rotten family connected to such a cherished friend. my condolences, and i hope you will not harden your heart against us all because of ignorant racists like the ones you had to deal with. as to your friend, perhaps write in a journal about all the good and bad things you can think of connected to Mike and your friendship. it will help you to heal and to keep his memory alive within you. please try not to stick us in a stereptype, as then it is just as bad as Mike's parents if you do. (and if you are the same age as Mike, you are around 21 - old enough to understand that there are lousy people in the world, but not everyone is that way). best wishes.

How do you quantify "so many" You had a bad personal experience; suppose I was mugged by a black or latino, should I make a post that says "why are so many blacks/latinos vicious thugs?"?
Look past the personal hurt; many whites are bigots, but I hope not a majority; the same goes for all races. If we all teach our children tolerance, this will not be an issue someday.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm white, and i do know what you mean. but it's not just white people. it seems as a society, since 9/11, we've gone back to fearing who we dont know. and since we're more individualy isolated now more than ever, people are showing less and less tollerance for other people, especialy for people of a different race. it's horrible, but at least now everyone is being discriminated against... so hopefully we'll all realize how stupid we've been at the same time? i can always hope.

It's really sad to know the truth and I seriously don't understand how people can be like that. Just how can you hate a whole race just cause they look different?!? How can you hate others when they give you no reason to do so? We have a long way to go before we ever make it to hevean.

Sorry about your friend dude. They're just close minded like any race can be(not white people in general, just ***** like them). They're just like that because they don't know any black people. Racism is a child of ignorance.
