They are from different genuses...which is the next step back from "species" in the taxonomic system. Generally monkeys have tails and apes do not. Monkeys are also smaller than apes. Basically they are from completely different branches on the evolutionary tree...unlike Humans and Apes.

The correct answer is that apes have no tails. Baboons are NOT apes. They are monkeys. Chimpanzees, Orangutans, and Gorillas are apes. Check it out in the World Book Encyclopedia

i imagine there's a difficulty right here.. no one's actual stated how apes and monkeys are distinct.. i heard distinctive genuses and households thrown round, yet no descriptions ok so apes don't have tails (to whom ever stated it in his answer, they have remnants, clone of human beings, ie it went monkey-ape-human.. it truly is a simplified version to tutor a element for sure) the first primates were equivalent to bush-toddlers and tarsiers, small arboreal mammals, with primitive grasping fingers and lengthy tails for counterweights even as transferring among the branches.. even as south u.s. chop up from africa this crew of animals became chop up besides.. the african aspect finally starting to be lemurs, previous international monkeys and apes.. the SA aspect may take a decidedly better monkeyish frame of mind, no lemurs or apes advanced (or a minimum of survived) in south u.s... the african protosimians chop up off and some grew to change into higher, better limber, small headed, ahead dealing with eyed, with better dexterous fingers and ft and tails (the SA monkeys followed an similar yet distinct route) those may change into the former international monkeys a number of thesse monkeys began spending further and extra time on the floor, their hind limbs decreased in length and they grew higher and smarter to address the recent numbers of predators, social communities higher also to seize up in this.. apes one (or better) of those apes left the wooded area floor to challenge out onto the plains and start up their personal journey (i assume you should imagin who those grew to change into) you should bear in mind that NONE of this are extant species and maximum of that are at the moment exstinct.. to whomever stated it of their answer.. ingredient do not evolve in one day (except in labratory exeriments) so i doubt, nay it isn't any longer plausible, that you'll see some thing evolve on your lifetime.. your element is invalid except that there is a set of different creationist lies, incorrect information, and misunderstood info... many of the popular popular.. that brat in spite of the indisputable fact that takes the cake so a procedures as stuff i have considered at the moment.. i understand the position you've been going with this question.. yet i imagine alot of human beings misunderstood that.. wondering it became a literal question about why they do what they do.. i understand you're somewhat better satirical than that, this became likely usually a baited question...

What about baboons, orangutans, gorillas, and chimpanzees??!
Actually, I don't know a THING about ANY of them, but I DO know THIS: the 'MONKEES' are: Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, & Mike Nesmith!
Fortunately, the Monkees have NOT become an "endangered species" - the "Pre-Fab Four" LIVES ON!!!
