I don't know what's wrong, but it's been hurting for over a year. Ever since I gave birth to my daughter last June. Our family dr. doesn't think it's related, but I'm not convinved. The muscle relaxers he prescribed have no effect on the pain and I don't know what kind of doctor to see next. Any advice?

ave to recall all the postural changes you went thru while pregnant.. If your doc didn't recommend certain things to do to reverse those problems before all the ligaments returned to the normal state, you are still in that same postural position..You will notice several changes which are obvious when checking them... Hip higher on one side, shoulder longer on one side, head perhaps tipped to one side, tail still too far out..... but the neck pain can be attributed to the unequal muscle tension in that area.. the rotation from one side to the other will not be the same. There will be restriction of that rotation on one side. May want to try rolling up a towel and lay on it with it placed under the neck..

The only other doc who would be considered for such a condition would be an osteopath.. any other one will treat it only with meds...which does nothing for treating the existing problem. Only treats the symptoms.

Choosing the right doctor and treatment for neck pain is really important. Also it’s depends on what type of neck pain you have.... If you have sprain neck or minor pain from improper posture you can try to visit chiropractor or physical therapists. They can recommend some exercises that can help you increase flexibility and strength. If you have serious problem like degenerative disc disease, herniated disc like mine or cervical herniated disc (C4,C5 or c6,c7) you can try to visit neurosurgeon, spine doctor, pain management physician, neurologist and an orthopedic surgeon.... I'm from Singapore and even chiropractic care has lots of controversial issue, I've tried it and i can say that chiropractic care is really works for temporary pain relief, so there's nothing wrong if we try noninvasive treatment too like PT and chiropractor. Remember, finding the right treatment for back pain or neck pain is a trial and error process. Btw i forgot the exact address of my chiro anyway, you can check her other services at http://www.familychiropractic.com.sg/

If you don't want to see a chiropractor then try a physical therapist. You may eventually go to an Orthopaedic. Good Luck.

Musculoskeletal doctor. They typically specialize in pain assessment and management. They don't muck around with superstitions like chiropractic subluxations, which have never been shown to exist.

neurologist is the best thing to try first-he can recommend you to see an orthopedic doc if necessary

most neck injuires or problems are nerve related and the neurologist can order ct scans and a mri to determine what is wrong and go from there.

ortho or maybe neurosurgeon if it could be a nerve

edit: it very well could be related to your giving birth. Ever since my sister had her first baby and they gave her an epidural her back will pop and hurt for days afterward if she twists just the tiny bit off.

You should try an orthopedist. They can do x-rays and an MRI to really look at your spine and everything related to it. I too have neck pain, it took an MRI of the neck to detect the problem.

i guess, you should get it checked out by an orthopedic or a neurologist. i hear, sometimes while delivering a baby some nerves get pulled due to the access activity require by the mother to push. its alway good to be sure than sorry...or something like that. all the best and stay healthy!!
