the sky is blue because of a phenomenon known as Rayleigh's scattering.of the seven colours that make up the spectrum of white light blue has the smallest wavelength.Rayleigh's scattering is more effective at short wavelength.
Rayleigh's scattering is given by the equation I=1/x^4.here I stands for the intensity of scattering and x the wavelet of light being scattered.
so as blue light has smaller wavelength the particles in the sky will scatter blue light to a greater extent.this is why the sky appears blue.and when this blue light reaches us the sky appears blue!!

A clear cloudless day-time sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light. When we look towards the sun at sunset, we see red and orange colours because the blue light has been scattered out and away from the line of sight

The sky is blue because in space there is darkness. Well, with the sun and it's rays it shines in the universe making us see the sky as blue when it really is totally black. That's why the sky is blue.

Light is composed of various wavelengths that are indiscernable to the naked eye. However our atmosphere acts as a sort of prism that seperates the waves into what we call colors. Because "blue" is the shortest wave length, it is the color that reaches our eyes.
