I'd have to say expense..plus most americans put in 40-60 hrs per week with just about a week off per year...as far as being opinionated towards foreigners to be perfectly honest it goes both ways...americans are not exactly held to highest regards in most foreign countries.

I agree with you. It is an unfortunate truth of the American Culture.
However, the answer to it is not neccessarily physically travelling out of the country (I would love to, but the money isn't there to do it).
The answer is in education and the media. If you watch american tv news, you get a very narrow vision of the rest of the world. Most americans (and I AM one) don't even realize this!! Our schools and colleges need to focus far more on educating students about the entire world, and I reccommend to all americans to watch foreign news broadcasts, read foreign papers, foreign news sites online, whatever you have to do to educate yourself. You are missing out on a whole world, and dont even know it.
Note ... I discovered this personally by moving to Canada and realizing firsthand that what outsiders say about americans not being informed is all too true.

If I had extra money to travel outside of the States, I would. I disagree with American's being narrow-minded. We all have the right to have opinions.

Some don't even get out of their home state. I think it's insecurity
, being too comfortable being around family. Lack of money plays into this as well. I'm glad I got to travel. I find that while foreigners can have some differences in lifestyle, their feelings can be very much like Americans. I find cultural differences very exciting.

I would love to travel more, but it is very expensive. I am very open minded when it comes to other cultures, but that might be because I am First generation american.

I get shunned by foreigners, especially those from central Europe. Besides, traveling is expensive.

America is made up of nothing but foreigners...unless you are Native American, and thanks to our ancestors...there aren't many of them left (sarcasim). As far as traveling outside the country, it is pretty expensive.
I like Dawg's answer too.

May be a combination of factors: money, fear, would rather explore the US first. The people I've talked to always cite money as the main factor.
