Ok the only way the turtle could make the baby sick is if someone handles the turtle and then handles the baby without washing their hands. It's simple. If you handle the turtle, you thoroughly wash your hands. That way everyone lives happily ever after. And anyways turtles don't even like to be handled that much, they prefer to be left alone.

But you should not release a turtle into the wild, the turtle is not ready to fight against predators and does not know how to survive in the wild as it was held in captivity. So therefore it won't have someone to take care of it and provide it food when it wants feed etc etc etc. Therefore you would just be releasing the turtle to its death. So I suggest keeping the turtle and either not handling it as much or just washing you hands very very well after handling the turtle.

Captive animals will most likely die in the wild because they are used to having food brought to them and may not know how to find it themselves. Also they don't know how to stay safe from predators. She can keep the turtle as long as she is careful. Never let the baby around the turtle. And wash her hands with a good anti bacterial soap after handling it. I think that would be enough to make sure everyone is safe including the turtle.

So what does that have anything to do with the turtle. She does not have to mess with the turtle. so if she does not want to let it go then don't. I think that is silly. If she is worried about salmonella she has more chances of getting it from something she eats than that turtle. If she lets it go it will die it does not now how to take care of itself. Or call the a vet he may be able to help her. If u are worried about the baby then that is the mothers responsiblity to see that the baby does not play with the turtle.

How is the turtle harmful to the baby. I how your BFF is a lot smarter than you to know that as long as she washes her hands after handling the turtle there is no risk whatsoever to the baby or her sister. You need to mind your own business unless you actually know what you are talking about.

OMG! That would be sooo irresponsible to do! They need to find someone who will adopt the turtle. If you let it go loose, you may as well kill it!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying keep the turtle and too bad baby. What I'm saying is, you also have to think about what kind of life this turtle has had.. being fed, and taken care of by humans. If you let it out in the wild, it won't know what to do. It will probably starve, get sick, or get killed by something.

Gee I wish babies were just as disposable as pets...having a pet is a life time commitment (or at least its life time) If my dog didn't like the "new baby" I would really have to chose the dog. Adoption is a great thing...heres a clue...put the turtle out of the reach of the baby. And as the baby gets older MAKE HER BE A PARENT and teach it how to interact with all types of animals...

one problem with releasing the turtle into the wild is that you could introduce foran diseases into the wild population that they have no natural defense to there by destroying a whole wild population. the captive animal would probably live( instincts do take over).
like some one said earlier you would be more likely to catch salmonella from your kitchen than from the turtle.

You should take the turtle for a little while until it is safe to put it back in her house. either thator keep it in her room and the door closed at all times.
