There is never an excuse for violent behavior...except in the case of self defense (someone trying to kill you). The Italian was steps behind Zidane...he made the choice to turn around and head butt the guy. Inexcusable and the height of poor sportsmanship.

Only Zidane & the Italian Player know for sure!...It's unfortunate it happened, no matter what occurred between them!

But, Zidane should have kept his emotions In-Check...at least until the Game was Over!...The incident has left a tarnish on the career of One of Soccer's All-Time Greats!

That said...I'm really hoping the Public hears about the True Reasons for such a Great Player...to Lose-It-Completely in the later minutes of the World Cup Final...with the Score tied 1-1!???

He was wrong to head butt Materazzi in the chest. Whatever the reasons for his wrath....he should have walked away from further confrontation, taken a few deep breaths and walked away.

Taking that oh so difficult first step to simply walk away....always works out to be worth it.

He didnt prove hes above such racist comments.

He failed to take control of his emotions.

This is so sad since he has so much control in his football game!

Tecnically speaking, he was wrong to use violence. However, if tat Italian player really said sth serious that really provoked him, he was a real man to show his feelings and react to it. =)
it was his last match and he knew it better den to blow it. Hence sth real bad must have been said to him. Altho he was sent off, he's still the best player. Zidane rox. =)

He should have given Meganazi a slap in the face. Italians are cheats and only know how to dive to win, if that fails they resort to racism.

If meganazi insulted ZZ in public he would have gone to prison. Meganazi got off lighlty.

What does the Italian-ness have to do with anything? If he had hit a black man, it woulda been a hate crime. It's a sport, tempers flare up and while it wasn't right, it was pretty cool and ...hey...**** happens.
