Consciousness is the awakening and understanding of the perceptions of your surroundings. The unconscious mind is what resides soley in the subject processing information from what your conscious eyes have seen. There is a belief that we all have a collective unconscious, such as everyone's underlying belief of something more in the universe for example. I do believe psychology relates both to the individual inner domain as well as related to the surroundings.
