There is alot of space in atoms and molecules. In a solid, the molecules are vibrating in place. In a liquid they are able to slide over each other as they move around. In a gas they are moving very fast and taking up the greatest space. In other words there is more space betwen them as they get warmer and move more.

GAS - basically nothing, but because the molecules are moving very fast, it's not considered vacuous or a vacuum.

Liquid, the molecules are so close together that they can be described as touching and sliding off one another.

Solid - The molecules are connected by the magnetic force that binds the molecules.

nicely, the least puzzling answer should be area, or in simple terms molecules of something else. The trick is in how a lot of this is between the molecules. Molecules of solids are quite close, so there is little or no area between them... beverages are slightly extra separate, and gases have little or no cohesive stress so there should be wide gaps of area between one molecule and yet another.

Gas-- indefinite shape
indefinite volume
the atoms are far apart because there is an increase in temperature, which is the average measurement of kinetic energy which means movement increase therefore the particles are farther apart

Liquid-- Indefinite shape
definite volume
particles are slighly farther apart
solid--- definite volume and shape
atoms are rigid

GAS - Nothing in between.
LIQUID - Again nothing in between, but the inter-atomic or inter-molecular distance is lesser than that in GAS
SOLID - Once again nothing in between, but the inter-atomic or inter-molecular distance is lesser than that in LIQUID

Main thing? Nothing, nothing, and nothing. WOW. Surprised? Atoms are made up of mainly NOTHING.

No one really knows, it's all just theory at this point.

When people talk about it they talk theory.
