Allany -
I checked out the state to state pricing tool at http://www.transportreviews.com/directory/infobyroute.asp and for WA to DC they only showed one move costing $1550.

That is likely the standard rate for that transport.

Since you are thinking about hauling the car yourself to save money you might consider this, go to the company directory at http://www.transportreviews.com/company/ and contact a couple auto transporters. ONLY if you are not in a rush, tell them you are willing to be placed on standby for a better rate. Depending on your vehicle you may be able to get a standby rate of around $1000. But by standby I mean you will be the last choice and bottom of the beral for the trucking companies. So you're vehicle may sit their for weeks... or it may be their for days. You need to be open to both possibilities.

DRIVING YOURSELF
The mileage of that drive is over 2700 miles across the northern US. So at $3 a gallon and a per mile rate of 25 Mpg you are looking at $324 in fuel alone. That is assuming you get 25 Mpg. If you dolly the vehicle and tow it don’t count on much more than 13 Mpg or $623 in fuel alone. This does not include any hotel rooms, the drive is about 48 hours.

Best of luck to you on your purchase. I hope this has been of assistance.
