He is a good man. He was even before this. That is a most respectful thing to do and you are right he could very well have kept his mouth closed. That shows he has integrity and he should be congratulated and given respect for that comment. A man with honour ans a sense of fairness and that is sorely lacking in many these days. Thank you Sonie for that post.

I hadn't heard that yet... it's also been reported that the Italian players were goading Zidane throughout the match, not just Materazzi. I can imagine that a player like Cannavaro (and Buffon, who attempted to console Zidane) had enough respect for Zizou so as to help the ref see it could go either way. Would have been best to red card them both, although Zidane's offense was worse. I'd like to read this story!

Cannavaro is the captain of Italy, he had to set a good example by telling the truth. If Materazzi did say something really bad, Cannavaro must stop that as a captain. He behaved himself. He deserved to raise up the World Cup like a real champion.

Well if that's true then I'm truly impressed. I've always loved Cannavaro and this is just another reason to love him even more. I think if the world had more players like him then we would have had an even more amazing world cup. I think it takes a great man to do what he believes is the right thing even if it might go against a fellow teammate. I really hope that this is true because it restores my faith in believing that some of these players actually do put their integrity over a football game.

Hey!!!!!!! I'm very impressed with what Cannavaro did!!
Yea, he's the man!
But how do you know that Cannavaro told the referee what Materazzi did to Zidane??
Did Buffon tried to tell the ref that Zidane headbutted Materazzi?
Did FIFA officials use VDO, or replays as evident to give red card to Zidane?
