When I lived in Florida, the rental house had cockroaches (as most of Florida houses do), and they got into everything, including my microwave. I would often see them running around inside the clock area. Could never figure out how to get them out of there. At any rate, they didn't seem to be bothered by it, but maybe they were never exposed to the microwave rays in the area they lived.

Well, a quick answer to your question is they can't. Nuclear radiation and microwave radiation are two different things. Nuclear radiation you refer to attacks our DNA, causing irreparable damage to the cells, meaning that they either die, or can no longer reproduce. Cockroaches seem to be very resistant to this type of damage. The radation generated by microwaves actually excites water, causing it to boil. Roaches don't like that so much.

Actually did you know cockroaches are one of the cleanist animals in the wolrd? They constantly clean themselves, and they're very nice. I work with them at the zoo i work at but still i must admit the regular cockroaches to make me squirm. Chances are it could survive a microwave. Considering nuclear bombs are very hot and have tons of radiation in them.

i hate how cockroaches have a certain smell - u can smell them when they're nearby! NASTY - anywayz cockroaches are pretty strong in that they have the ability to live in the drains and the dirtiest places without getting sick - but i don't think it can survive in microwaves because that's the same as cooking it in boiling water - PLEASE don't try cuz its really nasty - its going to stink up your microwave

Sure, unless you can make it stay in the zone where the focused microwave energy is applied most strongly.

the microwave releases this radio wave that speed molecules up which heats up whatever in the microwave. so no they wont survive.

I do believe that roaches like elecronics...I think.
I've worked in some restaurants and it seems that they always liked to stay in the radio.
so, I guess in a micro, they'd just find a crack to avoid danger.
Frankly, I don't know. But the thought is creepy.

Little bitty ants live through microwaving. I've never tried a roach.
