Marco Materazzi bad mouthed him after which Zidane gave him a head butt in the chest. One of their moves to get their hands on the cup. They certainly are a smart team but they can never be regarded as a talented team. To top it off they had a big mouth for a coach. Dont forget that one of their players cheated against Australia too.

France were the better team throughout and they were the ones who deserved to hold the Cup again. The Italians cheated, heaped abuse on every opposing team they played and ultimately were rewarded for being louses. That's not fair, but that's sports for you these days. Materazzi had a grand time taunting Zidane and that's not an easy thing for anyone to take, but Zidane needed to "take one for the team" and let it go. Holding the World Cup would have been far better revenge than a head-butt.

Italy has already won, so we can't argue with that. I think it is sad that there were racist comments made during the game, but if Zidane kept his cool during the game, he could have finished his career on a high note. In my opinion Italy played well throughout, but were lucky to get past Australia with the intentional dive that was made. Totti knew it, that's why he did not celebrate in the style we know and love. Otherwise, no-one will really know the true outcome of the final, Cannavaro was playing well, so it may still have been a draw, where if Trezeguet missed again, the same result would suffice. Cheers.

as for the win, i do believe that italy deserved it, and no one can take that away from them, so of the people i talked to say that the french play dirty football, i dont agree however, of all of the teams in the quarter finals, france and germany played the cleanest. it was perhaps a strategy to somehow keep the captain off the game specially during the penalty shootouts.. the most fun to watch are the portugese with ronaldo and his questionable dives...Materazzi should not have badmouthed the captain, it was wrong.... i only wish that zizou would somehow speak up about the issue

Italy was the better side. don't feel to bad just because you guys lost. its okay, but now it seems like france is not going to win a world cup soon. All retiring mostly.. boring defensive play? ok..what about france? cheating? HOW cheating ? LOL

That is soccer for you, the players fake their injuries and initiates yellow cards. Yes penalty kicks are not the way to end games. I would rather seem them cramp up and no longer walk and see someone kick the soccer ball throught goal than seeing 5 penalty kicks decide the end of the best tournament of the world. So, to the answer, all the boring defensive plays and cheating is just the way the world cup tournament goes.

I agree worst result since 1990. THe Italians are an insult to Jogo Bonito, they just counterattack, they cheat all the time, and most of their goals are just free kicks or corner kicks. Germany, Argentina, Portugal, FRance and even freaking Australia(Italians cheated autralians out with a fake penalty) would have been better. What a crappy final for this cup

Italy may have won, but the true champions of the game are france, who came together and outplayed the boring italians who needed to provoke zidane with racism to win.
France beat brazil, brazil arent like the low-life italians, they know how to win but also lose gracefully.
The french accept defeat but italians played dirty and the only victory was for the french who totally outclassed the italians and simply played the beautiful game "beautifully"

All those soccer players talk smack to each other, its gonna happen where someone will take offense and hit another player, this headbutt is such a big deal because if he didn't do that he could of helped in the shoot out. its Zidanes fault
