I think you've answered your own questions. They're not real.
Any home-based work should come through a legitimate company. Do some research (contact Better Business Bureau and the fraud department of your district attorney's office).
Any company that asks you for money in front is a scam.

The rule, as always, is to stay away from those that ask you to pay before you can get these surveys.
Legitimate market survey companies such as Pinecone Research recruit members based on demographic characteristics -- e.g. mothers of babies 0-12 years old -- and will send surveys of products and services targeting this demographic group. Pinecone Research, however, pays only $5 per survey -- you're definitely not going to be rich with that. They can give you anywhere from 1-5 at most surveys in a month.
Other companies simply ask you to answer as many research as possible, and you don't earn anything just the chance to win at a raffle (which I find lame).
The article "Earning Money from Surveys" provide a short list of legitimate market research firms and contains explanations of what to look for when joining surveys (and weeding out the fraudulent ones)

non legal internet business is not supported by PayPal, VISA international or Master Card. it's proven. Go for the internet business, which requires less of your time and the one that will not make you feel headache with web designing, or which require IT knowledge. Second, choose the internet based company which offer you the opportunity and at the same time giving you the convenience to start the business. Third, choose the business, which does not require big money to start it.
All the above is only available from: http://www.website.ws/powercontrol
Honestly, I tried so many opportunities offered through the internet and this is the only one that really works.
PLEASE NOTE: You only will understand the whole marketing concept if you read every details & the trial period is FREE!
Remember, You CAN'T guarantee whether you will get many fish or not by spreading your net into the sea, but u CAN guarantee that there is no fish at all if you never spread your net into the sea.

If you do not check a company before entering into a transaction, you could lose your money, time and credibility. Some widely used resources are the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and the national fraud center ( www.fraud.org) These days, you can easily find out more about a company using the internet in a few minutes. From a company's website, you can details about its ownership, how old the company really is and feedback from the company's customers.
You can find more detailed information about a company at http://tinyurl.com/gtb89

Sounds like you have had a bad experience. Do not let that make you judge other companies. You must remember, you still have to put some work into it because it is your business. I know people make it sound easy to make money, but they have probably been in the business for 3 or more years, so yes it is easy. Some seem to forget how hard it was or just do not focus on that anymore. I have a business opportunity, but we are looking for people who are willing to work hard now so later they can hardly work. You only really have to put in part time hours and to start, it is not easy, but it gets easier. If you are serious and interested, email me!

Hi,
To be honest, you are probably not going to find a job working from home. Any opportunities you find that requires a start up fee or money up front is a scam, don't get sucked in!!
I encourage you to immediately put these jobs out of your mind. Here are some of my tips when looking for a job....
Networking - Register at your local Unemployment Office (you don't need to be on unemployment to register for their assistance). They often will have networking groups on a regular basis. They also are a good source for the jobs that never show up in the paper or online.
Check your local paper -- In many cases the paper's classified are now online.
Search Smart Online -- If you don't have a lot of time, spend most of your time at sites that aggregate the job feeds from several job search engines. Prominently these include indeed.com and thingamajob.com.
Organization -- I use a free online application that allows you to track your ads, jobs you apply for, send or print mail merged correspondence, and track your job search history. This site is jobsearchlog.com
I invite you to check it out and you'll be able to keep track of what you apply for.
Good Luck,
Karen

There are all sorts of jobs available that can be done from home, but they tend to be working for companies that allow this rather than a particular type of job. If your intention is to simply work from home then you are probably stuck with either startng your own business doing something that can be done from home or one of these "out of the box" internet type opportunities (that you arent interested in). Rather than looking for "work from home" and then seeing what there is that you can do, try looking for what you want to do and then seeing if there are any that are working from home.

You are right. Most of them are scams. Don't waste your time searching. Move on to something else.
