Saw a show on this the other day. It goes streight down! They showed it on TV.Had a little metal sink. Put water and some leaves to show it didn't swirl around and pulled the plug!Whoosh! Streight down the plug hole! Then they walked 3 feet north, more water more leaves and pulled the plug round & round it went and the same when they moved a few feet south of the equator! And just to really freak you out, when you stand on the equator you weight less! No kidding! :-)

It doesn't really circle. In the Atlantic Ocean, there is something called the Gilf Stream, which moves warm water towards the equator and cold water away from it. I'm not sure of which direction it goes in. You can probably find a diagram online.

The question needs something more. Why would water circle at all? Do you mean in the toilet or sink? That's an urban legend anyway, water circles in whatever direction it is started by other often random forces. I can drain my sink and start it clockwise and do it again and make it drain counter clockwise. It won't stop and correct itself.
