Bahia, Catamaran, Dana Inn, Shelter Island. Go to the websites below and there are about 8 or 9 hotels on or near the water with great pools and in great locations. With teenagers, you're going to want to stay near Mission or Pacific Beach. There's also a cool motel in Ocean Beach called the Ocean BEach Hotel. It's across the street from the beach, but you can hear the waves and it's a surfing beach. The prices aren't as high as what you might find at the other suggestions. Another fun place that could be good (I don't know how many there are in your party) is Crystal Pier Hotel There are cottages on the pier in Pacific Beach. They're not fancy, little bungalows, but they have 1 or 2 bedroom with family room with hideabeds and only 10 minutes from Sea World and Mission Bay. In Mission Bay you can rent jet skis, wave runners, kayaks etc. Also there's a Hilton and the Hyatt Islandia (although pretty pricey) At the Islandia they have sportsfishing boats that will take you out for 1/2 day or full day. You can email me if you'd like - I'm a San Diego Ambassador, I'll give you advice on the trip, if i know more about the specifics (it's no charge! I love seeing people enjoy their stay here!) Either way, what you already have is something to start with. You're going to have a great time. If it were me with teenagers I'd go with Crystal Pier. The teenagers can surf, ride bikes or skateboard on the boardwalk, and run up and change and leave sandy towels and go down to Belmont Park. The CP also has a kitchen which I loved when traveling with teens, so you're not ALWAYS having to go out. But if you want a little more upscale, any of the places at the below websites will do too. Have fun! Go to the Zoo, Sea World, see what bands are playing at SOMA (all ages concert, very cool bands!)

San Diego things to do:

Sea World is more like an amusement park. There are more rides, and it's good for someone who doesn't have a great attention span (I'm not saying that's you, ok?!!!) If you have only 3-4 hours, you'll feel that you accomplished a lot.

Education-wise, Sea World has an obvious edge in the aquatic, marine life department. So, you have to factor that in if you like sea animals.

The Zoo has a lot more to offer, if you have more time. The Park is huge, and there's just so much more to take in -- not just animals, but plant life, two immense bird "cages", and yes, there are shows. Parking is free, unlike Sea World.

Outside the Zoo, you've got Balboa Park, with museums, the planetarium, space theatre, and nice restaurants.

If you are coming from the north (or staying in the northern part of San Diego), there's the San Diego Wild Animal Park -- and that's even bigger, with animals living in their own natural habitat.

Which one is better? Personally, I'd go with the Zoo. There are Sea Worlds in other states, along with other marine parks. But there is only ONE San Diego Zoo. Very few zoos in America compare to San Diego.

Stay close to Sea World, any of the hotels. Try expedia.com or travelocity.com and choose a 4 star rated hotel nearby. (I lived in Orange County and made many trips to San Diego, and the Sea World area has the nicest beaches and best environment for tourists.)

Stay on Coronado

It has beautiful beaches and is close to, but not in the middle of the city. Great driving distance from mainland beaches and other attraction.
San Diego was the best vacation I've ever had--BEAUTIFUL.... you don't NEED attractions for every day.

you'll detect quite-priced holiday homes for employ contained in the Pacific sea coast and challenge sea coast parts. maximum of those are top on the sea coast, or interior of two-3 blocks of it, and are lower than 0.5-hour from Sea international, the San Diego Zoo, previous city, and massive buying spots. The boardwalk stretches from MB to PB, which does have a tendency to make it a fave spot for locals in the course of the weekends and summer (ie. It receives crowded!) i have had acquaintances and kin of distinct a lengthy time period stay for roughly 2 weeks in one of those holiday leases in PB, and they'd an truly good time. They spent about a million/2 their time on the sea coast, and the different a million/2 seeing the criteria of interest. desire you delight on your holiday!!

The best of the best is the Hotel Del in Coronado, It's a little on the pricey side, but well worth it.
