You mean Italians, right? :) They've been doing that forever.

The same reason NBA players take a charge. This happens allot in the penalty box because if you take a player down in the box that team gets a free penalty kick. Other reasons vary, if the referee thinks it's a foul, possession of the ball goes back to the other team. It's also a way of catching your breath and allowing your team to do the same. You try running, sprinting, jumping non stop for an hour straight. Unlike American football their is no "time out" their is no alternating offense defense so one can rest and put on an oxygen mask and drink Gatorade. I'm not condoning those that cheat by flopping and I hate those players who are on the ground and grab your leg or roll on top of your feet when your ready to break away.

This is just a method of wasting time off the clock. They take a flop and look hurt and watch as 5 mnutes role off the clock. It's technically delay of game, but who ever calls that? Anyways everyone does it, just look how many times Ghana did it after they went up 2 - 1 over the USA. I'm not saying the US would have won that game, but hell, Ghana spent half the game acting like they were dieing there at the end...

Because they want a rest. That's why soccer isn't big in America is because we don't like to watch people pretend to get hurt because they are tired. The soccer players need to play a real sport like American Football or Rugby where you have to be tough to play the sport. If soccer players pretend like they are hurt the need to be penalized or at least forced to stay off the field for a few minutes to overcome their "injury".

There no different than NBA players, they fall down every time there hit so hopefully they can get a foul called wether it happened or not

Its a dubious tactic and attempts to decieve the referee into giving a harsher penalty.

it seems to happen in all competative team sports, I guess they are hoping for pity from the referee and a foul against the other team
