women from less socio economic countries use different varieties of sanitary napkins. in some muslim countries, women are sent to a house for a week, while they are mensturatiing. some may use cloth and just wash it, some conditions are so bad, they use nothing at all...and in the bush i've 'heard' that they use banana leaves and such....

try find some more info on it, its an interesting question...

The same thing that women in America used prior to the invention of ready-made pads and tampons. They made their own cloth pads which could be held in place by pins and then washed and re-used. Hence the term, "on the rag." Some women still do this today because the cotton "rags" result in less waste and are, therefore, "better" for the environment.

I would presume nothing. In some cultures, women do not go outdoors while they are menstruating, in others, they are considered "unclean". Maybe cloth? leaves? depends on what is available....
