I can barely stand to watch them because of how they exaggerated the whole Arwen/Aragorn relationship and how they made the riders of Rohan look like they had no warriors and added stupid pointless irrelevant crap that didnt even come close to following the book. Like how they made Faramir act like a dumbass and made Frodo way more weak than he was in the book. Does anyone else get annoyed by this as much as I do? Tell me what discrepancy annoys you the most.....
Just so you know I have been reading the Lord of the Rings repeatedly every year since I was 9 years old so I know it very well they are my favorite books of all time including the Hobbit.

Hey spookysickness.... reading IS my hobby duh!! are you brain dead? Why do people like you even bother to answer questions when all you do is put down the asker? By the way I love to re-read all the good books I have read and I do it all of the time there is nothing wrong with that, and obviously I don't keep watching the movie because it annoys me. I was looking for the opinion of other people who felt the same way as I do about the movie as opposed to the book. Also I dont read LOTR every day but on and off since my teacher read it to me in school. I am sure when you were 9 years old you were just picking your nose while I was reading and expanding my horizons and my vocabulary. I think YOU should get a life and a hobby since you have nothing better to do than put people down for liking to read books multiple times PS I have read thousands of books in my life because I LIKE TO I dont care what you think about my hobbies.

and huddie l (I think you are trying to spell HOODIE but since you dont read you dont know how to spell) I lived with my friend and drank nearly every day from 16 yrs to 20yrs old so my drinking days are over especially after seeing my dad drink himself to death at age 53. I would rather read a book than drink myself into stupidity and death.....Just so you know for men alcohol causes IMPOTENCE if you dont know what that means look it up.

I too have been rereading the Lord of the Rings since I was a kid. I was seriously upset that they made Faromir such a jerk in the movie. My brother nearly got us kicked out of Two Towers when he started yelling about Elrond telling Arwen to leave Middle Earth.

Yeah, i agree..... But actually, whenever there is a movie adpated from a book, there aer bound to be some digressions... And in case of Lord of The Rings, one thing you will also agree that despite the discrepacies you pointed out, its still very close to the book... Infact i feel that its among the better adaptations from the ones we have seen so far......... And the casting, screenplay, music etc was so good in the movie that such small discrepancies dont mattter much...
I have read the book twice and i agree that the experience of reading the book is far more enriching than watching the movie, because what all that has ben portrayed in the book can never be fully depicted in the movie..... Still i belive that the team has done a good job with the movie!

I didn't particularly like the movies, at all, because of how long they were. I tried reading the books, but never could get very far. I do like The Hobbit though. I read a lot of books that get turned into movies, and sometimes I see the trailer for a movie and I call tell that it was made from a book. No movie is perfect in telling the story of a book, but I like the concept of it because it gives a different perspective on the story. The Harry Potter movies are the same, quite different from the book- with the same basic plot and storylines- but still a good story.

Ahh the discomfort of reading a book before seeing the movie. It will be ok, the movie isn't supposed to replace the books otherwise people would get even lazier and then they would never bother to read at all. The movie is just there to entertain not teach literature class. Hopefully it did it's part and got another generation to pick up them old dusty books and fall into the magic of J.R.R. Tolkien.

I agree with you, whenever i hear of a book turning into a movie I get mad, because they hardly ever agree with the books 100%. However I must give the directors of the Lord of the Rings movies some credit. They captured the essence of the books a lot better than other movies.

I agree with you...I read the books as a child and was offended by the movie. It was beautiful, but not true to the books. The Arwen/Aragorn crap tweeks me the most...but that's Hollywood, you have to have a big sweeping love relationship.
Don't you think Michael Jackson would make a good Golem? He-he-he.

Get a hobby.
Seriously.
Hun, it's just a book. You can't expect the movies to be perfect. If it annoys you so much stop watching it. We all have something we love to read, but to read it over and over since the age of nine is way too much no matter what your age is.

Maybe it is time for you to get a new book?
Don't be too harsh on Peter Jackson. He loved the books too that is why he made the movies. You might want to try the extended versions of the movies. The movies are closer to the books in their extended versions.

Well either you read the book or watch the movie. Don't do both as a movie director interprets the words he read in actions and emotions as he understood it.

I feel the same way whenever I watch those horrible X-Men and Batman movies.
So many changes I don't even consider them X-Men. Just a different group of phonies with names identical to the X-Men.
