You are a very good friend to be concerned about your friend and her infant. Talk with her first and tell her your concerns . . . the baby will not get an overdose from weed but COULD get an overdose from other toxic drugs (meth, cocaine, etc). OR it could be ignored if the parents are too high to realize something is wrong.
If you friend blows you off, talk with someone you trust: a clergy member, a counselor, your parents . . .
Good luck.

He shouldn't be smoking aroung the baby, period. Cigarettes, cigars, weed. And while you can't OD on weed, all you people who are pooh-poohing the concerns, consider that this is an INFANT. This is not the same as an adult being in the room with some second-hand marijuana smoke. You or I would be fine, but a tiny baby whose body and brain is still developing would be much, much more sensitive and may well suffer permanent ill effects. You just have to be extremely cautious around babies. I think the question here is whether this guy smokes around the baby or not. If you are satisfied that the baby is never around the smoke, you probably don't need to do anything. Talk to your friend about this. BTW I hope your friend isn't smoking herself and then breastfeeding this baby, is she?

Oh grow up!
You don't even know for sure if he's SMOKING weed let alone smoking weed AROUND the baby AND in large enough amounts to get the baby stoned! Not to mention overdose!!! Have you EVER even heard of someone ODing on weed? hahaha! Have you ever smoked weed?!?! Stop overreacting and just make your concerns known to your friend. And maybe you should get some facts about these things that you don't know anything about before you go contacting government agencies and ruining peoples lives! Do you really think the baby would be better off in a foster home? Get real.

Even if the baby isn’t “high” as in displaying signs of being stoned he/she could still be in real danger here. Small amounts of marijuana smoke could still be coming into contact with the baby even on accident. This can cause the brain to form incorrectly… anywhere from mood disorders (that may not show up until the child is a teenager) such as depression, anxiety or something as pronounced as a learning disability or retardation. Pot kills brain cell. For anyone. Adults have more to kill and their brains are already formed so the effects may not be as bad for an adult then child. But babies has very small undeveloped brains… killing just a few brain cells now can have dramatic results down the line.

I agree for the most part with Brianne. If he's smoking near the baby, that can cause a problem (babies aren't supposed to inhale smoke, whether it comes from a cigarette, a joint, a brush pile, a campfire, etcetera)
As far as actually smoking pot and being around the baby, I'm a little iffy on that. It's probably better than being drunk with a baby, but responsible parents stay straight and sober when caring for their child.
It is impossible to OD on THC. Overdoses occur when the drug interacts with the part of the brain that regulates breathing or other important bodily functions. THC does neither. It does increase the heartrate, but not as much as say, taking a jog.
That's not to justify giving it to kids, but just to answer your question on overdosing.

There isn't a way to overdose on Marijuana. But if the baby is around the smoking of mj then he will get a contact high which could affect his learning abilities. I would contact children's services and make sure these people are investigated. I hate to see children taken from their parents but if they are ignorant to smoke pot or even sell pot around a baby then they don't deserve to have the baby.

There is no way for you to be able to know if he's high, which is extremely unlikely. Even if someone (someone very ignorant and in need of a smack) did smoke pot in the same room as a baby, the baby wouldn't come close to over-dosing.
But, you should really say something. Selling pot is bad, but nowhere near as bad as smoking it under the same roof as a baby or child.

I've never heard of anyone ODing on pot, but then again I don't know how much a baby can take in. A baby will be high if it's even in the same room as someone who is smoking I'm sure, through secondhand. You should probably just ask your friend, because I'm not sure how you would tell if a baby is high...

Potheads aren't like other drug addicts. If your friend was on heroin and selling it out of his house, I would be really concerned for the baby. First of all, you cant OD on pot, its medically impossible. Secondly, i'd rather have my husband smoke pot and then handle the baby than drink a few beers. He would never smoke around the baby, we dont even smoke cigarettes near her. You dont need advice. If you see him smoking around the baby, tell him that's not good for her. If you see him doing lines of coke in front of the baby, call CPS. Dont worry your silly little head about pot. Even if he is selling it, the worst part of that would be the weirdos he'd have coming to the house. Chill out, the people who said to call social services have never even smoked pot so they cant give you an honest answer. Those people annoy me.

Call child protective services of some kind. You can call anonymously so your friend won't find out. That way they can do an investigation and determine if the household is good enough for the baby. You should really call, that little baby deserves it.
