There's a feature called System restore. That lets you set your system to the way it was at a prior day. You could try this.

Click the start button on the lower left side of the screen to get the list of your programs, point to highlight Accessories, point to highlight System Tools, and select System Restore. Then follow the instructions.

Hope that works for you.

Believe it or not there are 2 separate ways to get into reg edit but I don't think you should go there unless you know what to do. I took a course were I was trained various computer things and one of them was reg edit. Most virus or other programs only block one way into reg edit. Do a search for reg edit for all files and folders you will probably find a few items. Try opening any that look like the normal reg edit file. If your lucky you will find the loop hole into regedit.

If not I will try and get more info. I used to know of 2 great things that could help you. I will let you dig into this as I dig into finding these for you.

---edited---
Also try this and see if it will help you. Go to start Run and
type "regedt32.exe".

sorry by reg edit I mean Regedit the spell check will not let me ignore it.

I'm looking for the files to help. hold on.

Reformatting is away the last option so save it for later. You can try to backup your files just in case a reformat is needed.

---edited Here this is one of the two------
Read and follow this is you can. It might help. Note read it properly it aways has worked for me but it will not aways work.

---edited-- Here read this it is the second thing I was looking for--

This will make a usable backup of each main utility just read the website I posted. I never tryed this because my I solved my problems before I did but if this work's it should help you out. Good luck and sorry about the messy post I have made.

~~if your computer is infected it is not good to be transfering files from it.... have you tried to go into safe mode to get into msconfig and regedit? other than that, if you are able to remove norton, (which as you can see is a useless virus protector,) download AVG grisoft, and Avast... both are free and together are great at removing virus's. reciently i did that with my son in law's computer... he had norton and didn't even know that his computer had 23 virus's on it which were all removed using AVG and Avast.
run Avast at full power you will be amazed at what gets found on your pc and fixed... if that don't work the only thing i can suggest is to reformat your hard drive. (good luck to you)~~

note avast will not work with any of norton or semantic products on your computer... it is necessary to remove all norton and semantics before installing avast, but like i said norton is useless anyway, and definately not worth the cost, when you can get better for free)

Hi there, you know i had the same problem with my laptop, If the virus is on laptop or notebook, you can go to start menu , all programs and click on recovery wizard option, if the virus is on your desktop pc, i reccommend you go to retail store, but the cd of windows XP (this will delet all of your current files) and after installing it, just return it back to store... In desktop case this is the only way out... If you still have concerens please reply me back...
