Zidane sits there and talks about fair play so does FIFA. Even if the vote count was in Zidanes favor he should have been revoked of this award due to his actions. Regardless of what Materazzi may have said (and it is clearly seen that Zidane was running his mouth the whole game like he always does) and the Frenchies are complaining about the ref who gave them a gift of a penalty - Zidanes actions are not forgivable.
Verbal assault never should equal physical violance. Even his teammates and his coaches agree and they hate him for his actions. The bottom line is Zidane has always done this. On many occasions.

Germany hasn't exited.... they are in the bronze match on Saturday, I think Miroslav Klose will win the Golden Shoe.... Golden Ball might be the Buffon... but honestly Fabio Cannavaro deserved a nod here.. he is the best central defender in the World Cup and he goes above and beyond..... that man deserved more recognition.... Defenders don't get the attention they ought too.. Cannavaro was the main reason Germany could not get many shots on goal.. naturally I would love Podolski to get best young player, but I check the stats on FIFA and he was not the in the top, things can change though. I saw some games of Bayer Munich with Kahn in net and he was not playing like he did in the World Cup 2002 or the Euro's, not as solid as he once was. Honestly I was concerned he was going to be our number one this year, I was relieved it was Lehmann. Lehmann is the same age as Kahn so if Lehmann did not play in this World Cup he would have never got the chance... btw every heard the song my Die Prinzen called "Oli Kahn"? I was surprised to find out how many of the German team is only 21, which is great, its not an old squad, they had to do a lot of revamping when a lot of the older players form 2002 retired. Imagine the skill of those young players in 2010 if they are playing this well now.

Basically the journalists that had gone to Germany to cover the games had voted for the best player, and it is specifically based on their performances and their plays, and they dont take into consideration the fouls that were committed. Besides, the ref should not have given him the red card, since it was the fourth official that told him what had actually happened, and the fourth official has a TV monitor in front of him and can watch the replays. Since the judgements are supposed to be purely on what the refs witness without any technological support, the red card should not have been given since none of them actauly saw the incident. That's exactly why Luis Figo only got a yellow card and not a red card. Anyway, the Golden Ball was most deserving for someone of Zidane's stature.

Because he is one of the best soccer (football) players to ever step on to the pitch. He has amazing footwork, perfect ball handling & control. And i strongly believe that if Zidane wasnt red carded the French would have won the Cup. Ziane Rules!!! Viva La France!!!!

because he scored 3 goals. There are some other players that socred 3 but zidane made it to the final. That's how they do it. the most goals you score and the further you go in the competition, the better chances you have.

Read what jjc92787 wrote. They nailed it on the head. The headbutt is irrelavent. He played good soccer throughout the tournament. I mean think about it he came out of international retirement and carried the france team to the final game. They went from not escaping their group in the the 2002 WC to 2006 in which they were finalists. Enough said. He deserved it for being the catalyst in the mid-field.

the best player was cannavaro, but zidane has contributed so much to the beautiful game, so it was like a parting gift. anyway the fans voted for him.

Because the voting process ends way before the end of the Championship game. So, the foul couldn't be considered.
