Do you think it will be another asteroid that destroys us, like it did the dinosaurs?
I heard there is an asteroid heading in our direction, apperantly it has a 1 in 30 chance of hitting us. It is estimated to reach us in 2028 or around there. What do you think? What would you do if you knew you had less time than you thought?

They calculate the time, by measuring the size of the object, with the powerfull telescopes. Also they have light techniques, where the closer something gets it's color changes, so it's not that it's a theory. This is an actuall asteroid heading towards us. We have to prepare.

It's inevitable that an asteroid will hit the earth again. Whether its big enough to destroy us, or if we're even still around to see it are the only questions. That being said, I think there are some really innovative methods being thought up to protect our planet from an asteroid hit. We as a people have built bombs that could destroy our planet, we should easily be able to build something that could destroy or divert something one thousandth it's size.
I don't know what I'd do, I guess pray.

Yes, there is one coming, according to NASA. They say it will actually pass between our satellites and the Earth's atmosphere. This means the space station and the satellites could get hit by it, being in low orbit.
The fear is that the Earth's gravity may suck it into our atmosphere. If that happens, we would be in deep trouble. An asteroid only a few miles across can wipe out every living thing. It also depends on what it is made of, like iron or nickel, gas pockets, etc. If it's mostly iron or nickel, then it is unlikely the entire thing would burn up in the atmosphere.
I couldn't find the exact article at this time, but it is somewhere on the NASA site. Here is an interesting one:
http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news042.html
they're already tracking 220+ near Earth objects, and have discovered over 250,000 asteroids so far. The ones they don't see are what we need to worry about. Comets are the worst ones because they can come at random. They can actually sneak out from behind the sun and hit us within weeks, with no warning. NASA and others are working on defensive systems. but, keep in mind asteroids are traveling very fast, usually around 30,000 MPH (faster than a bullet). The space shuttle travels around 17,000 MPH orbiting the Earth every hour and a half or so. So, trying to land on one would prove difficult. And blasting it to pieces creates many smaller pieces that could do more damage than one big one.
If I knew I had much less time than anticipated, I would seek out pleasures I normally wouldn't. I would probably sell everything I own and camp out on top of a high mountain to get a good view of the hit. It's going to happen sooner or later, so why not just enjoy the show.
I'm betting we will have serious problems from our own destructive habits before it hits. After studying global warming recently, I think we'll probably get killed off long before the asteroid comes. The glaciers all around the world are melting, already, some are gone. Greenland is melting now, too. We can surely say goodbye to many coastal areas in the near future.
If you don't know about global warming activity, you might want to start paying attention to it soon.

It is possible, as last week (July 4) a very large asteroid (as long as four football fields) came closer than any other object has since 1928. I would think that if scientists feel that any asteroid had potential to hit earth , we could be somewhat proactive in solving the situation, or preparing for it, in the least. Remember, the "Star Wars" technology touted by President Reagan? Perhaps some of that knowlege will be able to be used should that situation ever come about.

I could walk outside and fall over from a heart attack or more likely be in an auto accident, since I've already been in 5 and made it through all of them or a tornado could come tonight or an earthquake of magnitude8.0 could hit the New Madrid Fault and everyone within 500 miles will be wiped out. The Bible says God clothed the Lillie's of the field and he knows every sparrow that falls. Surely then he will take care of us in whatever the situation is.

Everything in life is a bit of a lottery, 1 chance in 30 of hitting us is 30 to 1against getting hit , not a bad bet.

Maybe our own Moon will save us. Did they factor in our moon's gravity, position, etc.? Our moon is pockmarked, with craters, showing how many times she's taken hits for us. You gotta love the Moon!
