Priapism is an prolonged erection...
Complications
Potential complications include ischaemia, clotting of the blood retained in the penis (thrombosis), and damage to the blood vessels of the penis which may result in an impaired erectile function or impotence. In serious cases the condition may result in gangrene, which may necessitate penis removal, and in the worst cases, castration.

Yes it can cause irreversible damage. If you have it in the first place, something is wrong with your mechanism to gain and lose an erection. I think it's "im PO tent" to go to a dr. if you have an erection lasting longer than four hours. You know bro, I'd jump in the car after three. You don't mess with the future of the package.
