This is something interesting I saw on the history channel. It's about UFO's, but at and under sea. There were reported sightings from multiple countries during exercises after WWII - especially surrounding the FDR (first carrier to have nukes on board).

Leave the comedy at the door - not interested in smart *** comments. Another BAD answer is "Well, it's secret because governments are afraid of chaos among societies if evidence of UFO or USO sightings surfaced and were confirmed"... too easy... try again.

they were Soviet submarines. US miliatry would loose face if they admitted that Ruskies got that close, so they just kept it hush hush.

It is a common fact that superpowers use submarines to spy on each other's activities. There are plenty of collissions and near-misses. There is even a conspiracy theory that sinking of Kursk few years back was caused by US submarines.

Sorry if this is a boring answer. Let's see if you something more usefull for your tabloid job.

they keep it a secret cause they have no absolute proof of weird stuff, and they hate telling us something and then having to say the worst-that they were wrong i mean look at roswell, they didnt say it was real, yet they changed their story 3 times, as long as they didnt say that there were aliens for fear of being wrong

They were there according to witnesses. They were definately not submarines since they were going at nearly impossible speeds that are nearly impossible for the technology that we have now.
